ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

“I wasn’t sure what I’d done to deserve such a wonderful gift, and I wasn’t sure if it

was insolent, but I thanked God for fallen angels.”

- Jamie McGuire, Providence

I would like extend my heartfelt gratitude to my family and relatives who always

supports me not only for my financial needs but also for their love, trust and encouragement that

strengthen me to face the world with positive outlook and hope. And to my dear friends who

keeps on supporting me, thank you for your advice and your words of encouragement, for that

will be my strength every day to overcome my problems. And to the one who keeps on

encouraging me to face all the darkness part of my journey, you always been there for me to light

up my day.

Practice life with failures and in the end you will enjoy the most precious success,

off-campus internship is meaningful journey of my life. It’s the only time where you can have

determined in handling and molding young minds inside and outside of the four corners of the

classroom. This internship is needed a great challenge for me because I have to be committed

and be responsible enough to showcase what I’ve got in terms of giving a good quality of

teaching of my students. In spite of the trials and difficulties, still I was able to surpass on it. I

wish to thank every person of my life who inspired, touched and illuminated me through their

presence. I feel profoundly grateful to the following person for their intelligent guidance and

cooperative efforts in the critical phases of this course.

To my mentor, Mrs. Sherry Ann S. Hillario, you’re the best mentor I’ve ever known. I

owe you a lot for the patience, understanding, guidance and most especially for all the comments

and advices, that you have given to me. Thank you ma’am for being an awesome mentor to ne

because you encouraged me to be strong, have faith in myself and have self-confidence in my

teaching. Thank you ma’am because without your guidance I can’t come this far. Your always be

remembered ma’am.

To my co-student’s teachers, especially the physical science family, thank you so much

for the happiness we’ve shared. You’ve been my brothers and sisters always. It is my honor and

great achievements to see each other wearing toga with a happy face marching on the stage.

To my Grade 9 and 10 students, thank you for the love, respect, cooperation,

understanding, willingness and prayer during my stay with you and acceptance as your student

teachers.

I pay homage to the Students Teaching Supervisors of NORSU-BSC for all the

comments, suggestions and words of encouragement that you have shared to us. I learned a lot

from all of you, may you continue to share your knowledge and give patience to everyone who

really needed your advices.

To Cawitan High School (CHS) family, no words can explain how much I salute you.

Thank you so much for sharing with the best experience that we cannot forget for our whole life.

Above all, I heartedly offer my praises and thanks to our Heavenly Father for His Holy

guidance, presence and protection, for giving me life in this world who lighted and guided me to

the right path, for always being in my side during the darkest hour of my life for helping me

fulfil successfully all the requirements. For the challenges that He has given to me and helped me
overcome and learn from it and for the blessings that he bestowed upon me, my family and love

ones and for giving me the knowledge and wisdom that fill out the emptiness of my life.

For all these things, I thank GOD! For His grace, mercy, guidance and power, this

would not be successful

Getting to Know
the
Classroom Routine
Getting to know the classroom routines. . .

“For a child to learn something new, you need to repeat it in the average eight times. For a child

to unlearn an old behavior and replace it with a new behavior, you need to repeat the new

behavior on the average of 28 times”

- Harry Wong

Early in the morning, the 1st thing that the students do is to attend the flag raising

ceremony which starts at 7:15 in the morning. Then the morning exercise routine and lastly the

morning information of the teachers. After that the students returns to their respective

classrooms. Since I have an advisory class, after the flag ceremony, we then proceed to our

monitorial works; the students are divided to 5 groups. First are the Backyard Monitors, then the

Hallway Monitors, the Classroom Monitors and Window Monitors 1 and 2. As a teacher you are

model of every student so in terms of cleaning you must be an epitome to them. I am the captain

of the ship so I have to be the first one to move and do the work for if they see me working

they’ll also have the urge to help. If I want to let them clean I have to clean first for all eyes are

on me what I do they follow since they believe I am a teacher.

After 15 minutes of doing the monitorial cleaning and preparation the first period then

begins. I am their teacher in the first period but before starting the class I have to make sure that

everybody gets inside the classroom. Starting the class with a smile is a must have since you

have to create rapport between you and your students to let them feel free in engaging in the

activities. Then we have first the prayer. It is very important to start a class by a prayer since it is

one way of lifting up your cares to the Lord, asking for guidance all throughout the session. Then
the checking if attendance follows, I have to make a tally of the absences of a student before the

presenting the lesson to be informed about their whereabouts and the reason why they’re about

for this will be reported to the parents. Next is my motivational activity, which is the springboard

to my new lesson. Giving of motivation enhances the will of the learners to learn more. It

brightens and conditions their minds to the new lesson.

Teaching high school students specifically in the Grade 7 is a challenge for me for they

test my courage and enhance my skills and knowledge and push my limit about the subject taken

and also to the heterogeneous characters of 180 students who are still having lagged in their past

elementary lives, that’s why I always prepare myself not only for the best but also for the worst

that could happen every meeting.

At the end of the lesson, I always give evaluation to my students in order for me to know

as to the extent of the understanding of my students in the lesson discussed.

The Journey Begins
with the
First Step
The Journey Begins with The First Step...

“A day to remember those good times and bad time, tears of joy

and tears of sadness. Each step I make is a step towards higher education

but, each step is accomplished by roles of our educators”

Practice teaching is one of the most memorable moments in my whole college years. In

this time mixed emotion are felt like happiness, sadness, nervousness and excitement. This is the

time to apply all the learning from past three years, a time to prove something, a time to be

stronger and a time to act.

Teaching is a great opportunity because it provides a lot of various experiences which can

bring throughout your journey.

Teaching is often referred to as a job, sometimes as a career, or even a profession, but it

is far more than that. We consider the choice as a way of life, or even a way of being. The

teacher’s journey represents a lifelong commitment to learning, not only about your content area,

grade level, curricular changes, school policy, and technological innovations, but for the new

knowledge, skills and attitude that make you more affective as a professional and a human being.

Come! Let’s discover how my first step goes on.

It was December 4, 2018 when I first stepped on the grounds of Sta. Catalina National

High School as a student teacher wearing my uniform with a smile and a little bit of confidence

facing every single individual I got too bumped with. I inhaled deeply, trying to calm myself.
Excitement rush down my nerves but chills runs down my spine. I’ll be meeting new teacher and

I’m going to be one of them soon but am I ready for this? Am I prepared?

I know I am but a part of me still question the skills I have. From the look in everyone’s

faces, they were expecting a lot from me and I don’t want to fail them. We were welcomed by

Ma’am Shamae T. Sales since the principal Sir Jonathan P. Badon was not around.

First meet with the Mentor

Tuesday came, I felt really nervous when Ma’am Sales announce our respective mentors.

Yet the nervousness I felt can never be denied. My mentor was no other than Ms. Sherry Ann S.

Hillario. Meeting her was a great privileged and to be her mentee is an honour. She had a

different set of standards and I was really doubtful if I could meet even a single one and I am

expecting that she is strict. But I made mistakes. Ma’am Sherry Ann was very understanding and

helpful teacher. I felt that she was my second mother since she was very supportive to me and

she helped me out to every ups and down.

First Meet of Students

It was around 10:00 o’clock in the morning on December 6, 2018 when my mentor, Ms.

Sherry Ann, introduces me to her first class. My heart was beating fast. Yet, I stood up in front of

the class with self-assurance. I faced them courageously. Each brain is unique. Thus, every

learner possesses different attitude and learning styles. Handling students’ differences is not an

easy task. I encountered different attitudes, problems and conflict between the students. I am so

careful in dealing with them to make harmonious relationship between each of them. I let them

feel that they are treated equally. I really give time for each of them to avoid biases. And I really
learned to love them all. I can’t believe with my maturity. I handled my students with an utmost

care. I never regretted to be with grade 9 and grade 10 students.

First Lesson Plan

This was the time I was so tired and was not able to sleep well. The 3 days of my class

observation with my mentor has ended. And the time for me to teach and act as a real teacher

begun. December 10, 2018 marked as the first day of my real encounter with the students. Our

lesson was all about Climate I had not sleep well making my lesson plan. Less of sleep I have

encountered on thinking about the strategies used in my discussion. “First impression lasts”, as

the saying goes. Thoughts were running on my mind on how to handle my students when they

are noisy and the moment they feel bored during my discussion. Plus, the uneasiness you’ve felt

thinking someone was listening, I imagined myself with shivering knees in front of the learners.

All that I’ve experienced during my entire practice teaching was the endless task of a

teacher. Often, we have heard from the many that they hate Science. And it challenges me. I

need to work hard and instill in the mind of every learner that Science is very useful in our

everyday life. It really took a couple of hours before I finalized my lesson plan. I don’t know

what to do first. Rough draft became countless. That particular night brought so much stress. But

I often told myself “I can do this!” I continuously remind myself that if others can do, why can’t

I? And it really worked.

My Journey Begins Here…

Preparing my

Instructional

Materials
Preparing my IM’s (Instructional Materials)

Instructional materials are very important in the teaching-learning process. It really

enhances the learners to experiences a real learning in the field of education. Thru the effort of a

teacher, they can easily understand the knowledge to which it must be. The IM’s serve as a

channel that learning can be fast as it is. They can easily grasp what you wanted to tell them.

Learners are good in samples rather than just a word.

Effective teaching of any subject will not only stimulates student’s interest in the subject

but also enhance their achievements in the examination. To achieve affective teaching and

learning process, there is the need for use of instructional materials. Instructional materials are

the different teaching aids or apparatus which a classroom teacher employs to facilitate his or her

teaching for the achievement of the stated objective.

Appropriate selection of instructional media can improve the quality of teaching and

learning. It can help facilitate an effective teaching based on the learning objectives. As

appropriate instructional media are chosen in the delivery of the course content, students will be

guided to improve their learning, performance rate and achievements.

When instructional media are appropriately selected, these can facilitate the effective

learning acquisition of the students. These can uphold their active participation in the classroom

task and activities. These may further enhance their comprehension of the subject matter.

My First
Assessment
Tool
My First Assessment Tool

Assessment tools enhance the learners’ mental ability in the learning process. These will

cater them to broaden their stock knowledge and to connect them or even use it. Through the use

of IM’s, they automatically remember the information that they need in a certain things or simply

serve as the channel. Assessment tool is very necessary in the teaching-learning process for the

teachers to know whether he or she met the objectives of the lesson.

Assessment for Learning focuses on the opportunities to develop students' ability to

evaluate them, to make judgments about their own performance and improve upon it. It makes

use of authentic assessment methods and offer slots of opportunities for students to develop their

skills through formative assessment using summative assessment sparingly.

Assessment is an integral part of instruction, as it determines whether or not the goals of

education are being met. Assessment affects decisions about grades, placement, advancement,

instructional needs, curriculum, and in some case, funding. Assessment inspires us to ask these

hard questions: “Are we teaching what we think we are teaching?” “Are students learning what

they are supposed to be learning?”

I conducted my first assessment through the use of paper-pencil test. I conducted

formative assessment after I have discussed the topic, with the guide of my semi-detailed lesson

plan to test students’ understanding. At the end of each topic, I conducted summative

examination through paper – pencil test to recall students’ understanding.

Designing and

Structuring the

Classroom
Designing/ Structuring the Classroom

Classroom environment captures the interest of every learner. You need to beautify your

room and its environment so that there is a friendly atmosphere for the students. It motivates

them to learn and tolearn more. For students, it is very important. The size of the classroom and

the interior areas, the colors of the walls, the type of furniture and flooring, the amount of light,

and the room arrangement all influence how students learn. Thoughtful arrangement of the

indoor and outdoor environent willsupport ypur learning goals for the students.

Adding color to a classroom, defining classroom goals and policies, and showcasing

students work, bulletin boards can be interactive teaching tools. Bulletin boards can be “another

teacher” in your classroom. Those that change periodically to reflect new lesson help visual

learners better understand new material, reinforce new words and concepts, and chalenge

students to participate in new ways.

Enhancing the environment provides learning to br conductive. As for the stucturing of

bulletin boards, our main goal is make it congruent with the present lessons perr unit. This is to

supplement the learning of the students for them to be guided with what competencies they are

going to achieve. The concept must also be a great importance over the design for the students to

interact with the basic concepts and not how attractive thedispaly is. The tag questions must

observe the priciple of higher-order thinking skills so that students will have a think deeply as

they relate their learning to the display boards.

Designing/ Structuring the Classroom
Come!
Let’s Participate
in
School Activities
Come! Let’s participate in a School Activities

School activities are somewhat a break for the students as well as for the teachers.

Through such activities, the bond will become stronger. It is the time that we can see their other

side and will be able to know them better. We always consider other intellegiences of students

and that is the reason why, there is what we called co-curricular activities that help them to

discover their different skills mostly they excel. School activities are designed for those students

who are not that good in academic but excel on other intellegencies. We are taught by our mentor

that we should have to engage ourselves in different areas of assessing the learners. One of it is

the school activities which we should heve to be involved in order for us, student teachers to

practice whata real teacher is.

Teaching practice is an integral components of a teacher training programs. During

teaching practice period at schools, students teacher must have the oppurtunity to get involved in

all aspects of currocilar (academic) as well as co-curriclar (non-academic) activities. They need

to become acquainted with the nature and challenges of the co-curricular acrivities of the school

where they do their teaching practice in order to commit to the task of guiding and coaching

learners in this regard.

To sum it up, school activities is part on how we rate them in their final grade. It is

already our responsibility on how we are going to assess them when we are already in ther real

field of teaching.

Doing

Auxiliary

Services
Doing Auxiliary Services

Doing auxiliary services during my apprenticeship is a great thing for me because I

learned how to go along with my students and to the teachers as well. Aside from that, we can

create special bond with each other. A bond that connects each one of us with respect to one

another. The feeling that you have given a full trust from your mentor to manage the class.

Another thing is that you are being entrusted to guide your students in doing some activities such

as tree-planting growing activity. In that way, I learned what I should do especially in keeping

them from danger because handling a large number of students is not that easy. Students are

being entrusted in you. So, it is your responsibility to keep them away from danger. During our

apprenticeship is one way of orienting and letting us experience the things in the real world of

teaching not just to teach our students alone the holistic way of teaching.

Teacher are the most proficient and outstanding individuals. They also said that teaching

is a full time job. You want to know why? It is because aside from their duty in school days,

they rendered their time in weekends just to make the activity successfully done. It is not about

your salary, your promotion, the good things that other people appreciate in you but it is all about

the outcome of such activity. If the activity is not that successful, who are to be blame? Teachers

of course, that is why teachers are very active in any task assigned to them and sacrifice

everything just to present the most presentable outcome. Teachers sacrifice a lot, time for the

family, time for you and time for loved ones, that’s how critical the life of a teacher is? But if

you are working on it in a positive way, you’ll end up into big thumbs up. Just like what we do

preparing for our lesson for the day, we made if for the students not just we want to accomplish

our task but we must to inculcate in the mind of our students the best learning’s, experiences and
attitudes they will acquire. The things that we do all the time are very memorable; it is like

walking a thousand miles. We are doing it in a positive way so that we can help not only the

students but also the parents. But the most important thing is our attitude towards our goal.

My Community

Services

And

Involvements
My community Services and Involvements

“The more you give, the more receive” more blessings are coming your way if you are

kind-hearted person. Think of other’s situation before thinking of your own security. Life is all

about that, share with others of what blessings you have. People may not discover it but God sees

you. Do all good things along as you can do, never get tired of giving because bless are the

people who give more than what they have.

Getting involved in your community makes it healthier and livelier. The wisest man who

ever lived said: “There is more happiness in giving than in receveing . “Yes in fact, we felt happy

if we receive a gift from others but it is more satisfying and give more happiness tous if we can

give more than what we have receive. The happiness youhave after doing such thing cannot be

bought by any amount because it is the precious thing that you can enjoy for a lifetime, no

expiration and no limitation. That’s how great giving is. So, let us try to open hearts and minds

forus to see the people who really need care, assistance and love. We should not hesitate to help

them.

What do all these different ways to give have I common? They all come from the

heart.this is true essense of the kind of giving that creates happiness for the giver and the one

receiving. When you give fromyour heart, you put yourself in line to experience a deeply

rewarding truth.

That is the reason why, we, the Graduating Batch 2018-2019 is celebrating our christmas

party focusing on the giftgiving to the people in GK Village,Bayawan City to show kindness to
others and such giving little happines to them and indeed, it is really satisfying that you do a little

thing and there is really more happines in giving tham there is in receiving.

My Narrative Experiences

This is it! Whether I am ready or not, I should have to pursue it. I am ready in my final

destination meaning this is already it is. It’s a great thing that I am assigned in Cawitan High

School as my laboratory school. I can’t explain my emotion during that time. I’m a little bit

nervous and somehow excited to start my practice teaching experiences. My emotion is mixed

because I don’t know what should I do. Luckily, the school head and the teachers in Cawitan

High School are very friendly and give us warm welcome.

After the student-teaching supervisors left us, we introduced to our mentors by Ma’am

Shamae T. Sales. The first two weeks of my stay there is an adjustment period. I realized that it’s

not easy to handle students with different behaviors and skills. It challenges me a lot to take on

whatever activity I am going to give every day just to cater their individual differences and skills.

But, I always bear in mind that my purpose what I am taking this course is to help the children to

learn and mold them to be a better one to face the ever changing world. Great TEACHERS have

a great PATIENCE. They are the first priority of teachers, the students.

Working with my students

As what Lao Tzu said “A thousands journey starts with a single step.” He is indeed right.

The core of student teaching program is the actual teaching wherein student

teachers will be given opportunity to concretize all they have learned from their academic

preparation and from their pre-teaching experiences as well. This period where their
aspiration and dreams covering the teaching profession would come into reality.

Although years are spent inside the classroom just to learn and acquire knowledge, ideas

and techniques in teaching, these are not yet enough for prospective teachers in handling

their task.

Working with my students

I am very fortunate to have Mrs. Sherry Ann S. Hillario as my mentor for she is kind,

approachable and willing to help me in my teaching profession. At first I am really nervous and

shy because my mentor looks too formal and a bit strict. For the 4 – month stay in school, we got

along very well. The nervousness I felt was replaced by confidence and assurance. I don’t have

any problem working with my mentor. She had given me everything I needed especially in the

field of knowledge with regards to teaching. She taught me a variety of strategies and techniques

that I should be using in my classroom and lessons. Ma’am sherry Ann really exerted a lot of

effort to mold my mind and heart to the realities of teaching. I was lucky enough to have a

mentor like her.

Working with my Co-Students Teachers

Great! Awesome! We’ve made it! No words can explain how much I thank you my

fellow student’s teachers. For I know that we are already near to success. Even though, we are

always stressed and tired of every day lesson we’ve made but still we accomplished it. Through

our determination, cooperation and ambition, we all reached the top. But, this is just the

beginning, the beginning to face the world with hope. These are the things I could describe to our
team. Whatever problem may arise we solved it with the help of each other. We encouraged each

other that we should have pursued it until to the very end. We are the team who are open-minded

because whatever the suggestion of one member can be accepted to everyone. I salute to our

team because whatever problems we have encountered during our apprenticeship at the end we

smiled and survived from a very crucial place. Congratulations! God Bless Us Always.

Student teaching supervisor

The supervisors monitor the progress of the student teacher throughout the experience,

ensuring satisfactory work. A grade of pass or fail in student teaching, as well as satisfactory

completion of a school’s education program is an indication as to whether the college

recommends the student for certification to teach.

Before we were deployed, Dr. Lucille C. Himpayan and the rest of the student teaching

advisers, helped us to understand what student teaching was. They taught us what strategies we

are going to use that were fitted to the behavior of the learners. She taught us also on how to deal

with my student teaching mentor and other teachers of my cooperating school. Our supervisors

are very approachable and supportive in terms of giving advices on us.
