PROJECT SITE: Molawin Watershed

I. COVER PAGE
II. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
III. TABLE OF CONTENTS’
IV. INTRODUCTION
-What is Hydrology?
-What is its importance?
-What is runoff analysis, in accordance to hydrology?
-What is its impact/importance?
-How will it be used in this study?
-What is the scope of this study?
-How will this study help the world?
V. OBJECTIVES OF THE PROJECT
VI. AREA DESCRIPTION
- Obtain project site description:
-Location details (includes landmarks and natural boundaries)
-Flood/Risk Map
-Slope Map
-Climate and Hydrology

Person/s Assigned (I – VI):

Programs Needed: Google Earth Pro, Internet, QGIS

VII. FLOOD ANALYSIS

CATCHMENT DELINEATION AND BASIN PHYSICAL PROPERTIES

Person/s Assigned:

Programs Needed: MS Excel, Google Earth Pro, QGIS

Description:

 Catchment Delineation and Basin Properties

-Delineation of main watershed
-Delineation of main streamflow/line
-Delineation of sub-basin watersheds
-Delineation of tributaries
-Total Area Determination and Length of main streamflow
-Tabulation of properties of sub-basins and tributary slopes
BASIN PARAMETER COMPUTATIONS

Person/s Assigned:

Programs Needed: MS Excel, Google Earth Pro, PhilGIS

Description:

 Obtain soil types of each sub-basin

 Compute for Curve Number (CN) and Runoff Coefficient
 Interpret each sub-basin using CN (which will be flooded first, etc.)
 Compute for Lag time and Time of Concentrations (Refer to Exer on SCS/CN)
 Compute using Kirpich and SCS Lag
 Compare results from Kirpich and SCS Lag using statistics
-F-test
-t-test
-ANOVA
 From your statistical analysis, conclude which method is best for the watershed in
study

RUNOFF ANALYSIS

Person/s Assigned:

Programs Needed: MS Excel, HEC-HMS, HEC-SSP

 Establish 24-hour design hyetographs for 2,10,25,50 and 100-year return periods
using:
-PAGASA Generated RIDF Curve by Alternating Block Method
-Huff Types 1,2,3 and 4
 Apply the area reduction factor if necessary.
 Using HEC-HMS, generate hydrologic model of watershed
 Determine the peak flow, volume of flood, total runoff depth and time to peak at the
outlet.
 Compare peak flows generated from the five sets of return periods by statistical
analysis
 Validate the peak flows at the outlet using the rational method.
 Get percent differences from each statistical method used.

GENERATION OF UNIT HYDROGRAPH

Person/s Assigned:

Programs Needed: MS Excel, HEC-HMS, HEC-SSP

 Gather streamflow data from the gauging station at Makiling Botanic Gardens
corresponding to at least three significant storms of various duration from the moment
the gauge was established.
 Generate the unit hydrographs for every storm using suitable techniques.
 Whenever possible, use HEC-HMS to derive and calibrate the actual streamflows with
actual recorded rainfall.
 Compare storm hydrographs with generated hydrographs from the runoff analysis

VIII. CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION

-Importance of the programs used
-Through statistical analysis, which method is best for runoff analysis?
-Through statistical analysis and rational method, which method is the best
estimate for the peak flow in the watershed?
-Through statistical analysis, which storm data (Milenyo, Glenda, etc.) fits to the
generated hydrographs?
