Job Description – Southeastern Michigan Field Representative
Reports To: Sales Coordinator
Description Summary:
The position of Southeastern Michigan Regional Field Representative is responsible for representing
Short's Brewing Company and Starcut Ciders with its distributor, Imperial Beverage, at pointofsale
locations, and at on and offpremise accounts located in the Southeastern Michigan area. The areas in
this territory range from Monroe, up through Detroit, on up to Port Huron, across to Flint/Owosso, and
directly south to the Ohio border. This position services Oakland, Macomb, Wayne, and St. Clair
counties.
In addition, the Southeastern Michigan Field Rep will work with other Short's Sales and Beer Liberation
staff, including the Festivals and Events team, and assist with special Short's Brewing Company and
Starcut Ciders events of significance including festivals, Pub parties, and other events as directed by
management.
This is at atwill, salaried position that reports to the Sales Coordinator.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
● Account profiling.
○ Maintain database profiling all SBC accounts.
○ Maintain and organize files with the following info: Contact name, number, email, and
job title, and names and positions of key people.
○ Learn about their families and interests.
○ Know their POS strategy and product placement.
○ Know who their Imperial Beverage Rep is and what their experience has been with them.
○ Determine what products work for them.
○ Perform POS setup and staff trainings, beer and cider tastings, case and tacker displays,
distribution of SBC and Starcut promotional materials, etc.
● Establish relationships with all accounts and set up a timeline to revisit and checkin. Learn about
their consumer feedback and popular beers and ciders (Short's and nonShort’s). Learn about how
they view their deliveries and account reps.
● Development, implementation, and achievement of annual sales and accounts sold goals.
● Know the marketplace. Know and regularly visit all point of sale locations in your region and
develop database similar to account profile even for nonaccounts.
● Cold call accounts to obtain information. Always maintain a polite, courteous, and respectful
demeanor. Note results of all phone calls and learn which accounts prefer personal visits or
communication via alternate channels.
● Go on distributor ridealongs.
● Perform sales presentations to Imperial Beverage.
● Keep vital communication with Imperial Beverage regarding leads, successes, issues, and
important events.

● Communicate and educate Imperial Beverage reps about field issues, new products, or any other
possible breakdown between Short's and consumers.
● Campaign for cold craft beer and cider. Educate retailers and onpremise accounts about the
damage of nonrefrigerated product.
● Promote “Beer Liberation” and appreciation through education.
● Build and maintain close working relationships with the top on and offpremise accounts, both
chain and independents in your designated territory.
● Build and maintain close working relationships with our distributor, sales, and management
personnel in your designated territory.
● Work each market with distributor sales representatives, field managers, and key account
managers.
● Report concerns to supervisors, including concerns that need to be addressed to the distributor.
● Record all accounts visited using our log procedure.
○ Note successes, issues, and prospects.
○ Provide weekly, monthly log reports and accomplishments recap to supervisors.
○ Organize all information on updated database at least once a week.
● Develop future goals based on acquired information.
● Attend Short's festivals and events as needed. Attend industry trade shows and events. Organize
and attend events at accounts within your region.
● Communicate with SBC management regarding any concerns and successes. Let Short's know
what is happening in the field and how we can best serve our customers.
● Communicate with SBC Marketing and promotions staff regarding noteworthy events and media
coverage.
● Coordinate opportunities for SBC to present Beer 101 classes, beer and cider dinners, and other
activities. Seek to plan these activities months in advance and in coordination with SBC
management.
● Understand and utilize maintenance and care techniques for all draft equipment and lines that you
may be provided as part of your job. Care for SBC equipment to keep it in "like new" condition to
ensure that Short's Brew and cider provided in field work always tastes delicious. Report any
quality control concerns immediately.
● Maintain professional appearance and demeanor at all workrelated interactions and whenever
holding yourself out as a representative of Short's.
● Utilize video and photo documentation when applicable.
Qualifications:
● Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, as well as Google Mail software.
● Wellorganized and selfmotivated with the ability to work independently.
● A high level of integrity, confidence, and the ability to forge strong professional relationships
quickly.
● Brewery knowledge, from the brewing process to the bottling process.
● Must be able to travel extensively within the territory and throughout the state.
● Strong desire to continue to grow professionally.
● Successful beer sales rep experience.

● Good written communication skills. Must possess the ability to develop and provide all necessary
written reports, business correspondence and presentations necessary to satisfy job requirements.
● Good oral communication and interpersonal skills. Must have the ability to effectively present
information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the
general public.
● Good timemanagement skills.
● Possession of valid Michigan driver’s license.
● No DWI offenses. To this end, you agree to call a taxi and/or get a hotel room if you are unable to
responsibly drive. Such expenses may be placed on the company credit card and will be otherwise
reimbursed by Short's.
● No drug offenses.
● Residency in the Southeastern Michigan area, preferably within 50 miles of downtown Detroit.
Physical Abilities:
● Consistently carry 10 pounds and occasionally lift and carry 50 pounds.
● Occasional bending, stooping, pushing, lifting, kneeling, and reaching.
● Frequently reach with hands and arms.
● Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision,
peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
