Dear Aspirants,

IBPS (Institute of Banking Personnel Selection) is slated to conduct the IBPS SO 2016-17
Exam on 28th and 29th of January, 2017.

First, let’s have a look at the IBPS SO 2016 Exam Pattern :

The above tests except the test of English Language will be available bilingually i.e. English
and Hindi

b) E- R diagrams (Concepts of Entity, Attribute, and Relationship etc.)

c) Normalization (Concepts of 1NF, 2NF, 3NF and BCNF)

d) Transaction Management

e) Overview of SQL Queries

f) Relational Database Model

g) Data Constraints

h) Database Administration

i) Sequences and Indexes

j) Implicit and Explicit cursors

2. Data Communication and Networking– 10 to 15 Questions


Data Communication is the exchange of digital data between two or more computers.
Computer Network is a set of interconnected computers and peripherals (printers,
webcams etc.). The following sub topics are important for the exam:-

a) Network Architecture: – It is the basic layout design of the communication network and
includes the entire component (hardware, software, mode of connectivity etc.)

b) Types of Networks

c) OSI Model (Open Systems Interconnection Model)

d) Network Devices and Models

e) TCP- IP Model (Transmission Control Protocol and Internet Protocol Model)

f) IP Addressing

g) Network Security

3. Operating System: –4 to 5 Questions


Operating System is the software needed to support the basic functions of a computer. The
important sub topics for the exam are:-

a) Types of OS

b) File concepts, Access methods

b) Semaphore

c) Page Replacement

e) Distributed Operating System

d) Memory Partitioning

e) Scheduling

f) Process

g) Thread

i) Security and Threats protection

4. Computer Organization + Hardware: – 4 to 5 Questions

unauthorized access, misuse, malfunction, modification, and destruction come under
‘Network Security’. Important sub topics are:-

6. Software Engineering: – 2 to 3 Questions


a) SDLC (Software Development Life Cycle)

b) Software Configuration Management (SCM)

b) Software Development Models

c) Requirement Elicitation

d) Software Design and Maintenance

7. Data Structure: – 3 to 4 Questions


a) Stacks

b) Linked Tests

c) Array

d) Sorting: Internal and External

e) Graphs

8. Web Technologies: –1 to 2 Questions


This is of slightly lesser importance. You are expected to know HTML, XML etc.

9. Programming Languages (Basic):- 1 to 2 Questions


You are expected to know OOP (Objected Oriented Programming), C, C++ etc.

Please note that the list is not exhaustive and it is based on the trends of past year papers.
You may encounter significant variations in the actual exam.
