Generative Sheet Metal Design V5R17 Update

What’s New in V5R17 ?

The list of enhanced functions in CATIA Generative Sheetmetal Design V5R17 is
given below:
Enhancements in Bridge: You can now design a bridge with round or square relief.

Enhancements in Fold/Unfold Faces: Now you can fold / unfold stamps across the bend
faces

Enhancements in Recognize: The recognize command user interface is enhanced to

define the elements for recognition and the elements which are to be ignored or removed.
A facility to define a local bend allowance for some bend faces is added.

Enhancements in Wall On Edge: Now you can define a wall on edge using various
options, planes and surfaces as limits. You can also define a wall on edge using a sketch
profile.

Enhancements in Mirror: With this enhancement, it is possible to mirror an entire part

which is very helpful to design symmetric parts as you can concentrate on designing all
features that are symmetric in the part body and then mirror the entire part body to
complete the design.
Copyright DASSAULT SYSTEMES

Enhancements in Corner Relief: It is now possible to define more than one corner relief in
a single instance. Also you can define corner relieves of three types : Circular, Square
and User Defined.

About Enhancements in Mirror

Up to V5R16, the mirror function

allowed the duplication of Sheet
Metal features (stamps, holes,
cutouts, walls, flanges, patterns
and mirrors) according to a
predefined plane of symmetry.

Mirror Function in V5R16 Result of Mirroring Sheet Metal

Features

From V5R17 onwards, you can

mirror the entire sheet metal part
along with all sheet metal
features.

Advantages of Enhancements in Mirror Function

The Mirror Function in V5R16 allowed symmetry of only a few features and only one
feature could be mirrored at a time. The Mirror Function in V5R17 allows replication of the
entire part body including all features in the sheet metal part in a single operation.

This reduces the design time considerably for parts which have symmetric features

This also reduces the size of the specification tree, hence simplifying the part structure.
