Delhi: NGT asks DPCC to check allegations of

pollution caused near Shakurbasti Railway


Station
The petitioner had alleged that due to unscientific loading & unloading of cement severe air
pollution is being faced by residents of Rani Bagh, Shakurbasti, Raja Park, Punjabi Bagh,
Srinagar and Madipur, even as complaint made to railway authorities have come a cropper

In a petition by one Anubhav Kumar who had alleged threat to environment in


and around Rani Bagh, Shakurbasti, Raja Park, Punjabi Bagh, Srinagar,
Madipur near Shakurbasti Railway Station on account of unscientific manner
of loading/unloading of cement, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) had asked the
Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) to inspect the area and “ascertain the
genuineness of the allegations made and if there is any infractions of any law relating
to pollution, then action if any to be taken in in this regard in accordance with law”.

The NGT also directed the Station Superintendent/ Terminal Manager (CRWC),
Cement Siding at Shakurbasti Railway Station and Chief Goods Supervisor, Cement
Siding at Shakurbasti Railway Station to submit a report as to what are all the
activities undertaken by them in that area to prevent the pollution to be caused on
account of their activities. They are directed to submit their factual and action taken
reports to this Tribunal within one month, said the NGT order.
According to the petitioner due to the cement work, severe air pollution is caused
that is affecting the health of the people. He had alleged that in spite of the fact that
several representations have been made, the railway official are not doing anything in
this regard and the pollution still continues.
