NGT says encroachment removal at Arthala

Lake, G’bad being done at snail’s pace; asks

for compliance
NGT expressed its displeasure over non-removal of encroachments and directed the DM
Ghaziabad to remain present on next hearing

???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Although high voltage drama unfolded at Arthala in Ghaziabad a few days’

back, it ended in removal of only few encroachments and the National Green
Tribunal (NGT) is not happy about it. Lambasting the Ghaziabad
administration, the NGT noted that although the original judgment of removing
encroachments in & around Arthala Lake, Ghaziabad, was made in September 2016
till date no compliance has been made by the authorities. 

The NGT in its order noted that the removal of encroachments was going on at a
snail’s pace. The NGT order said that “It is rather shocking to know that even the
total number of encroachments which are to be demolished in compliance of the
order of the Tribunal have not been ascertained so far. This clearly establishes that
required action for removal of the encroachments has not been looked into, planned
out and strategy has not been prepared so far.”

Taking cognizance of these facts, the NGT directed that the District Magistrate,
Ghaziabad would remain present before the Tribunal on the next date and
listed the matter for further hearing for July 10.

This means that the administration would have to remove encroachments from the
lake area anytime soon. Considering the fact that many gullible people could have
bought plots here, NGT petitioner Sushil Raghav also demanded that
administration should also plan rehabilitation of these people soon.

Raghav said that even Avas Vikas constructions, underpass near Hindon barrage
and Elevated Road pillars are built on lake area and the administration need to take
action against these as well.
