UNIVERSITY OF NEW MEXICO ENTREPRENEURS TAKE ON THE

SNACK INDUSTRY, LAUNCHING LENTIES CRUNCHY LENTIL SNACKS

Albuquerque, NM – August 26th, 2019

Local entrepreneurs and winners of the 2018 UNM Business Plan Competition, Daniel Teahan and Kyle
Thordahl, have decided to take on the healthy snack industry, one forecasted to be worth $32.88 billion
by 2025 (Grandview Research). They’ve used their winnings to embark on a mission to revolutionize the
industry with the launch of their sustainable snack company, Lenties Crunchy Lentil Snacks. The two
have a vision to “become the most sustainable snack brand out there today.”

Lenties Crunchy Lentil Snacks are a versatile, eco-friendly, and healthy plant-based snack option that
are minimally processed and packed with protein, fiber, and healthy fats. Made in downtown Albuquerque
with organic lentils, premium olive oil, and gourmet spices, they tout Lenties as the perfect, pourable, put-
it-on-everything snack.

“Studying sustainability at UNM helped me to understand the environmental effects of diet trends and
how small changes in one’s diet can have a far-reaching impact,” says Thordahl. “We’re making eco-
friendly eating easier by offering delicious, nutrient-dense, minimally-processed snacks that don’t sacrifice
on taste or quality, all while being made with some of the most resource-efficient ingredients out there.”

With each serving offering 8g of protein, 25% daily fiber, and 70% less fat than sunflower seeds, Lenties
are a refreshing choice for health- and environmentally-conscious consumers, as well as snackers with
busy and adventurous lifestyles.

“We live pretty busy and active lifestyles. When we’re not working, we’re usually snowboarding in Santa
Fe, climbing around New Mexico, or hiking in the Sandias. Because of that we are big snackers, and we
noticed an absence of convenient, cravable, crunchy snacks that are unprocessed, eco-friendly, and
nutritionally-balanced,” Teahan relates. “Although the ingredients are simple, it took more than a year and
over 200 batches to figure out how to properly soak, cook, roast and season a lentil and make it into a
lentie.”

Their first flavors include Pink Salt, Cinnamon Sugar, and–not to worry, New Mexicans–Green Chile.

Teahan and Thordahl have big plans for Lenties, with prominent local partnerships on the horizon.
They’ve begun selling a variety pack of snack sizes (1.16oz) on their own website,
www.snacklenties.com, through Amazon, and in a few different local retailers throughout Albuquerque.
