Sculpture 2

Abstract Plaster Form

Artists: Barbara Hepworth, Henry Moore

How do the curved lines help move the viewer’s eye around the sculptures?

You will create a larger version of the balloon sculpture. You may not know exactly how the
final form will look, but think about using curves to move the viewer’s eye around the
sculpture. You can create openings by pressing objects in on either side of the plaster while it’s
setting.

To start-
 make a maquette (model) out of modeling clay
 sketch the model
 find objects to use to help your mold stay in place: packing tape, rope, cups, clamps…
 after setting overnight, de-mold plaster and begin carving
 find lines and curves to emphasize that will lead the viewer’s eye around the sculpture
 mark where to mount on a base
 we will paint these after they’ve dried for several weeks
