ARMORED CABLE: TYPE AC

Armored Cable – A fabricated assembly of insulated conductors in a flexible


interlocked metallic armor.
• Cable Run Across the Top of Floor Joists - within 2100 mm of the floor.
• Bending Radius - The radius of the curve of the inner edge of any bend shall
not be less than 5 times the diameter.
• Securing - within 300 mm of every outlet box, junction box, cabinet, or fittings
and at intervals not exceeding 1400 mm across framing members.
• Supporting - Horizontal run supported within 1400 mm intervals
• Unsupported Cable - is not more than 600 mm in length at terminals where
flexibility is necessary

FLAT CABLE ASSEMBLIES: TYPE FC

Flat Cable Assemblies – An assembly of parallel conductors formed integrally with an


insulating material web specifically designed for field installation in surface metal
raceway.
• Boxes and fittings
o Dead Ends - terminated in an end-cap device.
o Luminaire Hangers - identified for the use.
o Fittings - shall be designed and installed to prevent physical damage to
the cable assemblies
o Extensions - within the junction boxes, installed at either end of the flat
cable assembly runs.
• Splicers and Taps
o Splices - made in listed junction boxes
o Taps - rated at not less than 15 amperes, or more than 300 volts.
• Construction - shall consists 2, 3, 4, or 5 conductors.
• Conductors - shall have conductors of 5.5 mm2 (2.6 mm dia.) special stranded
copper wires.
• Temperature Rating - marked on the surface at intervals not exceeding 600
mm.
• Grounded Conductors - White or Gray markings
• Securing and Supporting - Supported by special design features within surface
metal raceways.

FLAT CONDUCTOR CABLE: TYPE FCC

Flat Conductor Cable – 3 or more flat copper conductors placed edge to edge and separated
and enclosed within an insulating assembly.
Bottom Shield - The top protective layer installed between the floor and type FCC for
protection.
Top Shield - A grounded metal shield covering under-carpet components.
Cable Connector - Connector designed to join Type FCC without using a junction box.
FCC System - Complete wiring system for branch circuits design for installation under carpet
squares.
Insulating End - Insulator designed to electrically insulate the end of Type FCC.
Metal Shield Connections - Means of connection designed to electrically and mechanically
connect a metal shield to another metal.
Transition Assembly - Incorporated with electrical connection and a suitable box or covering
for safety.
• Branch Circuit Ratings
o Voltage – Ungrounded not exceed 300 volts, Grounded not exceed 150 volts.
o Current – General-Purpose and Appliance branch circuit not exceeding 20
amperes, Individual branch circuit not exceeding 30 amperes.
• Installation shall be permitted on the following condition:
o Floors – Hard, sound, smooth, continuous floor surface made of concrete,
ceramic, and woods
o Walls – in surface metal raceway
o Heated floors – Materials used in floors heated in excess of 30ºC.
o System Height – Above floor level exceeding 2.3 mm shall be tapered at the
edge of floor level.
o Coverings – Insulating end shall be covered with carpet squares not larger than
1000 mm.
• Securing and Supporting – All FCC system components shall be firmly anchored to
the floor or wall using an adhesive or mechanical anchoring system.
• Construction – shall consists of 3, 4 or 5 flat copper conductor, 1 for equipment
grounding conductor.
• Metal Components and Insulation – shall be corrosion resistant, moisture resistant
and flame retardant.
• Cable Markings – shall be clearly and durable marked on both sides at interval not
more than 610 mm with the information required.

INTEGRATED GAS SPACER CABLE: TYPE IGS

Integrated Gas Spacer Cable – A factory assembly of one or more conductors, each
individually insulated and enclosed in a loose fit, nonmetallic flexible conduits as an
integrated gas spacer cable rated 0 through 600 volts.
• Bends – A run type IGS cable between pull boxes or termination shall not
contain more than the equivalent of 4 quarter bends ( 360º total).
• Fittings – The termination and splices for type IGS shall be suitable for
maintaining gas pressure within the conduit.
o Valve and Cap – shall be provided to check the gas pressure or to inject
gas into the conduit.
• Conductors – Solid aluminum rods, laid parallel, consisting of 1 to 19 (12.7 mm
diameter rods)
o Minimum Conductors Size – shall be 125 mm2 with an ampacity of 119
amperes.
o Maximum Conductor Size – shall be 2375 mm2 with an ampacity of 519
amperes.
• Insulation – shall be dry kraft paper tapes and a pressurized sulfur hexafluoride
(SF6)
o Nominal Gas Pressure – shall be 138 kPa gauge.
• Paper Size Thickness – 125 mm to 500 mm, thickness is 1.02 mm, 600 mm to
2375 mm, thickness is 1.52 mm.
• Conduit – shall be a medium density polyethylene with natural gas rated in
metric designator 53, 78, or 103.

MEDIUM VOLTAGE CABLE: TYPE MV

Medium Voltage Cable – A single or multiconductor solid dielectric insulated cable

suitable to withstand the weight by cable ties.

Metal-Clad Cable – A factory assembly of one or more insulated circuit conductors with
or without optical fiber members enclosed in an armor of interlocking metal tape, or
smooth or corrugated metallic sheath.
• Bending radius – The radius of the curve of the inner edge bend shall not be
less the the required:
o Smooth Sheath

Mineral Insulation – A factory assembly of one or more conductor insulated with a


highly compressed refractory mineral insulation and enclosed in a liquid tight and gas

NONMETALLIC-SHEATHED CABLE: TYPE NM, NMC, AND NMS

Nonmetallic-Sheathed Cable – A factory assembly of two or more insulated


conductors enclosed within an overall nonmetallic jacket.
Type NM – Insulated conductors enclosed within an overall nonmetallic jacket.
Type NMC – Insulated conductors enclosed within an overall, corrosion resistant,
nonmetallic jacket.
Type NMS – Insulated power or control conductors with signaling, data, communication
conductors within an overall non metallic jacket.
• Protected from Physical Damage – conductors shall be protected by
Intermediate Metallic Conduit (IMC), Rigid Metallic Conduit (RMC), Electrical
Metallic Conduit (EMC), or Schedule 80 PVC.
• Bending Radius - The radius of the curve of the inner edge of any bend shall
not be less than 5 times the diameter of the cable
• Securing and Supporting – shall be secured by staples, cable ties, straps,
hangers, or similar fittings at intervals not exceeding 1400 mm and within 300
mm of every outlet box, junction box, and cabinets.

POWER AND CONTROL TRAY CABLE: TYPE TC

Power and Control Tray Cable – A factory assembly of two or more insulated conductors,
with or without associated bare or covered grounding conductors, under a nonmetallic jacket.
• Bending Radius
o Type TC with metal shielding - the minimum bending radius shall have
not less than 12 times the cable overall diameter
o Type TC without metal shielding - the minimum bending radius shall be:
§ 4 times the overall diameter – for cable 25 mm or less in
diameter.
§ 5 times the overall diameter – for cable larger than 25 mm but not
more than 50 mm in diameter.
§ 6 times the overall diameter – larger than 50 mm in diameter.
• Construction – shall not be permitted either over or under the nonmetallic
jacket.
• Conductors
o Insulated conductors – shall be in sizes 0.75 mm2 (1.0 mm dia.) to 500
mm2 copper, nickel, or nickel-coated copper, and 3.5 mm2 (2.0mm dia.)
through 500 mm2 aluminum or copper-clad aluminum.

Service-Entrance Cable – A single or multiconductor assembly provided with or


without an overall covering, primary used for service, and of the following types:

covering.
Type USE – Service-entrance cable, identified for underground use, having a moisture-
resistant covering but not required to have a flame-retardant covering.

or after installation, shall not be less the 5 times the diameter of the cable.

o Type USE - must be permitted to have a bare conductor.
o Type SE and USE – containing 2 or more conductors shall be permitted

Service-Entrance Cable – A factory assembly of one or more insulated conductors


with an integral or an overall covering of nonmetallic material suitable for direct burial in
the earth.
Type SE – Service-entrance cable having a flame-retardant, moisture-resistant
covering.
Type USE – Service-entrance cable, identified for underground use, having a moisture-
resistant covering but not required to have a flame-retardant covering.
• Bending Radius – The radius of the curve of the inner edge of any bend, during
or after installation, shall not be less the 5 times the diameter of the cable.
• Ampacity – The ampacity of types UF cable shall be that of 60º condcutors.
• Conductor – shall be 2.0 mm2 (1.6mm dia.) copper or 3.5 mm2 (2.0 dia.)
aluminum or copper-clad aluminum through 100 mm2.
• Insulation – Where installed as a substitute wiring method for Type NM rated at
90ºC.
• Sheath – Overall covering shall be flame retardant, moisture, fungus, and
corrosion resistant, and suitable for direct burial on earth.

Intermediate Metal Conduit – A steel threadable racewayof circular cross section


designed for the physical protection and routing of conductors and cables and for use
as an equipment grounding conductor when installed with its integral or associated
coupling and appropriate fittings.

o Galvanized Steel – Aluminum fittings and enclosure shall be permitted.
o Stainless Steel – Only used with stainless steel fittings and approved
accessories, outlet boxes, and enclosures.
