QUICK START GUIDE

Hello and welcome to the Madden 19 edition of the (in)famous Madden Scou
made a lot of big changes to the way team-building works in CFM this year,
greater emphasis on scheme fits, some all new archetypes, specialist positio
chart, extra attributes, and draft classes that are more linear than in previou
game (more on this in a second). The result is that I had to rewrite the tool p
scratch, but I hope you'll agree that the results have been worth the effort.

First thing's first, I'll run you through what each sheet within the tool is for.

YOUR DRAFT BOARD

This is the meat of the scouting tool; your Big Board. Here, you enter data a
including their positions, names, ages, scouted skills/grades, and combine s
digest this information and give you various outputs to help you make smar
day. These outputs are:

1) Draft Status: This is the 'banding' or grouping that a player falls into in te
capability. A "blue chip" player (to use football scouting lexicon) is an elite p
potential to be a top player at his position. A "red chip" player is a guy who
potential, while a "depth player only" is a less capable guy, but someone wh
provide some value depending on your scheme and positional needs.

While you are scouting, the Draft Status will give you an indication as to a p
banding, based on the information you have entered to this point. This will h
your scouting points to use on the players with the potential to be the top g
rather than waste them unlocking all three attributes on a scrub.

2) TVR (True Value Rating): This is the part of the tool that really helps you m
means of objectively scoring each prospect so that you can differentiate the
algorithm that calculates the likeliest OVR for the player (based on the skills
against him, his talent round, and his combine scores). It then applies variou
boost or nerf a player's score, including his age, scheme fit, whether you ne
position etc. etc. The result is a more effective means of comparing players'
you could ever hope to achieve with the naked eye.

3) Rank: This uses the TVR value to rank the draft class. Useful to sort by th
day!
YOUR
4) Dev %'s:TEAM SETTINGS
The tool provides you with an estimate of the % probability of a
certain dev trait.

5) Scheme Fit: A quick indicator as to whether a player fits your scheme, or

made to fit your scheme with a simple position change that won't impact his

Here, you can set things up to tailor your big board by specifying things like
and Defensive schemes; choosing how you like to approach the draft in term
Player Available) versus filling needs; selecting your team-building philosoph
now mode or doing a long-term rebuild?); and identifying any positions whe
great need or are already stacked and therefore want to deprioritise. The se
here will impact the TVR of players on the big board and move them up or d
accordingly.
TOP PLAYERS AT EACH POSI
Once you are nearly at the draft and you've entered most of your scouting d
this tab to give you an alternative view of your big board. This sheet will gro
position, and show you the top 5 for every position group. Useful to get a fe
draft is strongest and weakest, allowing you to plan accordingly.

DRAFT DAY PLANNER

Here, you can enter your draft picks and the tool will suggest players that w
be available at each pick. This is most useful for offline drafts (in online draf
reach for prospects they like whereas the CPU will go by projected round).

INDIVIDUAL SCOUTING REP

This is the part of the tool I'm most proud of (you really don't want to know
to build!). Here, you can choose a prospect from your big board, and genera
style scouting report about him. I like creating these and sharing them with
up the hype before a draft.

The plumbing for the tool. I'd strongly suggest you don't touch anything in h

ENTERING DATA
Those of you not using Excel 2016 will have to be very careful when enterin

complex data validation I am using. Below, you can see some references for
abbreviations, archetypes etc.

Another thing to note: I've protected the sheets to help you understand whe

NOTE FOR RETURNIN

For anyone coming back to the tool having used it in Madden 17 or Madden
that things have changed a bit. The biggest difference is that the tool won't
any more at helping you conserve your scouting points. The reason for this
a lot more linear (i.e. good players early, crappy players late) meaning there

The other big reason is that Talent Grade is super important this year, and it
know whether a guy is a stud or a scrub until you unlock that third skill. The
but you will see guys that look like scrubs end up as red/blue chippers after
final skill and add their combine details, and vice versa. This is particularly t

But the flipside is that the grading and statuses are much more accurate tha

EXAMPLE TWEETS
Coachman: Artie Husted's throw last night only furthers my case for him being the best
QB in this year's class.

Story: A family game - If you look back through football history, you will fnd that Vaughn
Labinjo's legacy runs very deep.

Story: Luck of the Irish - Field goals, kickoffs, punts and even tackles. Cole Dreessen does
it all for FIU.

Miller: I like Evonte Allison's talent, but if he can't go under center that's a huge red flag
for any GM.

Story: Head to head - Shawn Blakley kicks it into overdrive, leaving his competition in the
dust.

Coachman: I wonder how many chances the coaching staff gave Victor Morrison before
suspending him for the ol' conduct detrimental to team spiel?

McShay: Even with the injury, Essex is going to be a tremendous value pick for anyone
willing to be patient with recovery.

Tucker: Why is anyone even throwing in the vicinity of DJ Tanico? That's right, because
he's everywhere on the feld. Top DB in the draft.

Schlereth: It's a stretch to think any GM is going to want to take a chance on Klein until he
turns in consecutive solid performances.

Miller: How the mighty have fallen. Garrison Kaiser spent the early season terrorizing
offenses. Now he's a ghost out there.
Schlereth: Quinn Welker is fnishing his last season off strong. Great timing with draft
evaluations starting up.

Coachman: Hopefully Courtland Bilbo can deal with the distractions surrounding his
personal life and come into the off-season refocused.

Story: The playmaker - Kian Ramsey won the Heisman after dominating the conference as
both a receiver and a cornerback.

McShay: Holmes showed up at least 10 lbs overweight and was slow.

Miller: Leonard Fields faced some elite level prospects in the secondary at the All-Star
Game, but they couldn't stop him.

Schrager: Able to coach Victor Morrison at the CASG. Gave him a new nickname. Baby
Prime. #MVP #Truth

Miller: I always liked Jeffrey Massey as a runner but it looks like he may be more of a dual
threat than I once thought.

Story: Hips like molasses - FS Russell Leonard will have to prove himself to teams after a
poor Combine performance this week.

McShay: Reports of partying all night before games and taking plays off due to
exhaustion. Harmon Essex is scaring NFL GMs. [5E]

Coachman: A few years ago he would have been no question Top 10 talent. Now Jeffrey
Massey's lucky to even get drafted in the frst.

Miller: Just bumped Trey Russo in my C rankings. Really showed her can go sideline to
sideline at the Combine.

Tucker: Some players gain a few extra pounds the wrong way, but that's not the case with
Leonard. He hasn't lost a step.

Tucker: Did you see the truck that hit Ryan Gould at the All-Star Game? Oh that was
Hebert.

Miller: I don't even have Justice Parker on my latest mock draft. But after his Pro Day, I can
see him creeping into the later rounds.

Tucker: Deantre Amundson had that classic sun in the eyes look every time he turned to
look for the ball.

Davis: I've been told that Gordon Marshall is still recovering from a minor injury which has
impacted his conditioning.

Miller: Just got back from Clemson Pro Day. I thought Courtland Bilbo was an undersized
lineman before passing drills started.
Wingo: Ramsey's amazing catch is a microcosm for why he is one of the top WRs in this
class.

Story: Pancakes served all day - Haile Torrence stonewalls fellow top draft prospect
Hebert in 17-3 win.

McShay: Being told Walker Byrd not only ruptured his pectoral but also has a cracked
sternum. Nasty, nasty injury.

Schrager: Did a Preston Wilkerson pass even hit the ground on Saturday? Kid is a
gunslinger. Need a QB in the draft? He's your guy.

Miller: It's hard enough to get drafted in the NFL as a kicker. Van Pelt isn't doing himself
any favors with his on/off weekly performances

Miller: Not sure I've ever seen a prospect garner as much early attention as Shawn Blakley
and then go silent when the pressure was on.
Miller: With his combine and pro numbers, Morgan Clark has literally ran past most of his
competition.

Story: Huber wins Heisman - Harvard HB Gordon Huber has just won the Heisman afteer
an impressive season leading the conference in every major rushing category.

Tucker: It wasn't the coverage that was the problem, Jones had hands of stone all day.

Schrager: Have been told that several GMs are looking to trade into position to grab Tyson
Ramsey after his MVP performance at the All Star game.

Miller: Does anyone else wish they could have been a fly on the wall for any of Darren
Bierria interviews?

Tucker: Since Central Michigan had a scheme change, Jack Willis has been relatively quiet.
But I know he can play.

Tucker: Some players gain a few extra pounds the wrong way, but that's not the case with
Gillespie. He hasn't lost a step.

McShay: House's display of reliable hands should help him garner some more interest.
