Cardinal Newman School

A Message from
Principal Rob Loia

Cor ad cor loquitur… Blessed John Henry Cardinal Newman

August 23, 2019

Dear Cardinal Newman Families,

I send this note just prior to heading out this evening’s tailgate, taking place here on campus at 6:30 pm. Hopefully
we will see you there to enjoy some hamburgers, hot dogs, good fellowship, and our first home football game.

It was great to see our students engaged in school life this week. I am proud of the way they carried themselves
through my numerous interactions with them. This afternoon our marching band participated in their first Cardinal
Walk, a musical procession throughout our halls. All students took a quick break from class to cheer them on. It
was great to see their strong school spirit. We have a great community!

Diversity and Inclusion Task Force

This week, we also made concrete steps forward in our diversity and inclusion efforts. With the support, wisdom,
and input from a range of parents and individuals, we have decided to organize the Diversity and Inclusion Task
Force into four different ‘teams’. These subgroups will focus on four major areas:

· Parental Involvement
· Events & Speaker Series
· Curriculum & Resources
· Recruitment & Hiring Practices

Participation in the Taskforce is open to Cardinal Newman parents and guardians. We are asking you to consider
this invitation. Should you have an interest, please contact me at taskforce@cnhs.org over the course of the coming
week. Be sure to share your full contact information and which of the above areas you are most interested in. As
always, my door is open and I hope you reach out with questions or ideas.

Back to School Night

This coming Wednesday, August 28th, we host our Back to School Night. Senior, Freshmen and Seventh grade
parents are asked to arrive at school by 5:45 PM. We will hold meetings for parents of each of these classes at that
time. All Eighth Grade, Sophomore, and Junior parents are asked to arrive by 6:15 PM in order to register and pick
up their son or daughter’s schedule. A General Assembly will be held at 6:30 PM.

Our Seniors will be off campus on Monday for their ABC Day. We will also celebrate the Mass of the Cross on
Wednesday at 9:40 AM. All families are welcome to join us.
nd
Next week is full, but there is a three-day weekend following. School is closed on September 2 for Labor Day.

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend!

Christ’s Peace,

Robert A. Loia
Principal
