The national language is important for Filipinos because it is the basis of their language.
A language used officially by Filipinos across the nation. Language is part of the of one’s culture
and identity. As in other languages, the Filipino language has evolved in years. Filipino language
is also described the history of Filipinos (Nuestro E. 2009). As the national language evolves, the
science and technology evolves also. Science and technology are essential for national
development and progress. It gives priority to research and development, invention, innovation,
and utilization. English is one of the official language of the Philippines. English is the universal
form of communication in science. English is currently the best way to share one’s research
findings with other scientist and develop higher technology.

The importance of Filipino Language explains the connection between languages and
identity and how they are related with each other. Laneheart (2017) stated that “our countries
emerge from our transaction” which is develop within a culture. Whiter language is official is
essential. There are many different languages spoken in the world. Sometimes it creates a barrier
when trying to communicate. Language can play a small role in how people’s identities are
formed.

“The official national language or ‘Wikang Pambansa’ of the Philippines is Filipino since
1987”. (Muntingnayon, 2006). Most historians and linguists have described Filipino language is
strongly traced to the history of colonization. Because of science and technology, historians were
able to distinguish the post and discover more than 60 ethno linguistic groups from Batanes to
Sulu. This has a great need to find a “common and unifying and language” for the Filipino people.

There is an important relationship between scientific information and language. English

has become the dominant language of science and information because a great deal of scientific
research was undertaken in the English-speaking world. The Filipino language can play a small
role in how’s people identities are formed (Grabe W. & Kaplan R.B. 2002).

Accoding to the Technology index of 1982, the state of Science and Technology of the
Philippines is defined to be -0.1 compared to the U.S, the world’s technology leader, which is 100.
The Technology Index is defined as the average of the sum of the number. Since 1986, the
Philippines has prepared three comprehensive Science and Technology plans: The Science and
Technology Master Plan (STMP), the Science and Technology agenda for National Development
(STAND) and the DOST Medium-Term. By 2020, the Philippines shall have developed a wide
range of globally competitive products and services which have a very high technology content
(Ang K. 2013).

Filipino as a national language of the Philippines is not just one of the Filipinos form of
communication. It is a tool to help the country develop. With the use of science and technology
together with the national language. The Philippines start to develop the national language by
learning skills and education for the people. Improving science and technology in the Philippines
by doing “pananaliksik” to help the country develop and make a better place.
