A Leader Either Does Right or Evil

I. Evil is a thing that is damaging.

II. A leader either does right or he damages people.

III. So often those in authority get the idea that they are independent of all authority.

A. It doesn’t matter what they do, it is their business.

IV. You better have some final authority.

A. You better have some check and balance system to keep yourself accountable to

yourself and to God so you won’t do evil and damage people.

B. It doesn’t matter how big a church you build, there is no justification for damaging

people.

C. There are folks who are wicked, trouble makers who will leave.

D. You must give your attention to the people that you can help.

V. 1 Kings 15:5, “Because David did that which was right in the eyes of the LORD, and turned

not aside from any thing that he commanded him all the days of his life, save only in the matter

of Uriah the Hittite.”

VI. 1 Kings 15:11, “And Asa did that which was right in the eyes of the LORD, as did David his

father.”

VII. 1 Kings 15:25-26, “And Nadab the son of Jeroboam began to reign over Israel in the second

year of Asa king of Judah, and reigned over Israel two years. And he did evil in the sight of

the LORD, and walked in the way of his father, and in his sin wherewith he made Israel to

sin.”

VIII. It did not say that these others did right and Nadab did wrong.

A. Nadab did evil.

B. It is not a matter of right or wrong as a leader, it is a matter of right or evil.

C. I either do right or I damage people.

IX. 1 Kings 16:25, “But Omri wrought evil in the eyes of the LORD, and did worse than all that

were before him.”

A. He did not do right.

B. He did evil.

C. He damaged people.

D. He damaged the kingdom because he did not do right.

X. Anybody who has any kind of leadership ability, and all of us do, then we will do evil to some

degree in comparison to our leadership.

A. Depending on how much influence and how much leadership I have then that is going

to determine how much damage I will do if I don’t do the will of God.

B. If I don’t do that which is right.

XI. When a leader does not do right, they:

A. Damage people

B. Hurt people

C. Injure people

E. Disappoint people.
