4.2 3D MODELING
4.2.1 Modeling and Isometric Production Philosophy
The design and isometric production philosophy will be to use the 3D model as the master
source of information from which isometric drawings are extracted. The Piping Design
discipline must initiate and maintain the piping design in the 3D model then extract the
isometric drawings as required. Piping Design must not modify isometric drawings in 2D
after extraction as this will lead to conflicting data and a duplication of effort (No manual
annotation outside of the 3D Model).
4.2.2 Equipment Layout Model / Preliminary Piping Layout Model
Prior to commencement of Phase 4, it is anticipated that the status of the existing 3D
piping model could vary depending on the project, but at a minimum shall contain plot
determining piping with respect to process, stress, material and / or size, modeled to
confirm equipment and structure locations. The primary purpose of this review was to
confirm equipment locations based on major / critical line routing and to review platform
access and egress and maintenance spacing.
conducted and reconciled as design progresses and just prior to model reviews, and
extraction of isometrics for check and issue.
