4.2 3D MODELING
4.2.1 Modeling and Isometric Production Philosophy
The design and isometric production philosophy will be to use the 3D model as the master
source of information from which isometric drawings are extracted. The Piping Design
discipline must initiate and maintain the piping design in the 3D model then extract the
isometric drawings as required. Piping Design must not modify isometric drawings in 2D
after extraction as this will lead to conflicting data and a duplication of effort (No manual
annotation outside of the 3D Model).
4.2.2 Equipment Layout Model / Preliminary Piping Layout Model
Prior to commencement of Phase 4, it is anticipated that the status of the existing 3D
piping model could vary depending on the project, but at a minimum shall contain plot
determining piping with respect to process, stress, material and / or size, modeled to
confirm equipment and structure locations. The primary purpose of this review was to
confirm equipment locations based on major / critical line routing and to review platform
access and egress and maintenance spacing.

4.2.3 Phase 4 / Detailed Design Model

The scope of 3D piping modeling will be all piping that is shown on the P&IDs and is
within project scope.

4.2.4 Model Reviews

As defined in the JSTEPS work process, formal model reviews are conducted with the
client. Internal model reviews with Jacobs participants are conducted prior to the formal
client review. Depending on the size of the project, model reviews can be conducted for
the entire project or by area. Formal minutes are recorded and change notices are
generated when the impact results in a change is TIC.

 Preliminary Piping Layout Model Review

The Piping Layout model review is typically conducted with the client at the end
of Phase 3 / FEED but may be required at the beginning of Phase 4. The
primary purpose of this review is to confirm the piping layout of major lines that
are modeled, instrument and valve access and egress, maintenance spacing, to
confirm previous comments have been incorporated, and to review new ladders
and platforms,.

 Detailed Design Model Review

The Detailed Design model review is typically conducted with the client during
Phase 4 / Detailed Design. The primary purpose of this review is to approve the
piping design and to proceed with checking and issuing of IFC Isometrics.

4.2.5 3D Review / Quality Assurance

An ongoing review of the design shall be performed by a senior level designer to ensure
design is compliant with project requirements.

4.2.6 Use of Electronic Tools for Quality Assurance

The use of electronic quality assurance tools will be maximized. These checks must be

WL-PI022 Page 8 of 7
Piping Isometric Lifecycle Rev. 0, 01-Apr-2-11

conducted and reconciled as design progresses and just prior to model reviews, and
extraction of isometrics for check and issue.

4.3 ISOMETRIC DRAWINGS

4.3.1 Isometric Numbering

Isometric drawing sheets will be numbered uniquely. Unless client standards dictate
otherwise, isometric drawings will be numbered using a combination of the Area
Number, Line Number (including Fluid Code if necessary), and sheet number. Typically,
Isometric sheet breaks will be assigned such that only one sheet will be extracted per
Isometric number.

4.3.2 Isometric Quality Assurance

Isometric drawings will be checked to insure design is compliant with P&IDs, stress
analysis reviews and other discipline reviews prior to issuing for construction.

4.4 PROGRESS MEASUREMENT

The corresponding workflow defines the progress milestones for activities within a WBS code.
To calculate progress, earned hours are determined by the hours assigned to the WBS task
times the workflow percentages and compared against total hours per isometric. Alternatively,
instead of using milestones by WBS code, some offices may use a single isometric lifecycle set
of milestones to determine earned hours against total hours per isometric.

4.5 DOCUMENT MANAGEMENT

At a minimum, the latest issued for construction version of all Isometric Drawings will be stored
in the Jacobs Project Information (JPI) system.
