I – INSTRUCTIONAL OBJECTIVES
II – SUBJECT MATTER
III –PROCEDURE
A. PREPARATORY ACTIVITIES
1. Prayer
2. Checking of attendance
3. Classroom/ Laboratory rules
While the class is going on students are:
Not allowed to go out.
Not allowed to use cell phones/gadgets
Not allowed to eat or drink
4. Review of the previous lesson
What is Software?
What are the two main types of Software?
B. DEVELOPMENTAL ACTIVITIES
1. Motivation
Show the class some things with a missing part (Jigzaw Puzzle, Chopper, Car, etc.)
The teacher will ask a question:
What have you observed with picture 1, 2, 3…..?
Tell the students that each part of these things is important. If onepart is missing, then,
thatthing is not complete and it cannot serve its purpose. Like themissing parts of these
things that I have shownin the monitor, an Operating Systemplays an important role in
Computers. Can you imagine a Computer without an OS? What will you do with
Computer if you cannot interact with it? There is no Program that lets you use other
programs like Application Software.
2. Presentation
Using Laptop and LED TV;show a presentation aboutOperating System.
3. Analysis / discussion
Show the students the definition of an Operating System, some examples, its major
functionsand its four essential Managers. Show them also a video from the internet
about Operating Systems for additional learnings.
1
4. Application
Facilitate a “Use in a sentence game”.
Group the students into five.
The game will have 3 rounds, and each group will give one sentence per round.
The sentence must contain a word or words assigned to your group. (Note: A
score will not count if there’s a grammatical error or incorrect information in a
sentence. An already used word/s cannot be used again.)
Example: The Operating System is the most important program that runs on a computer.
The group with the highest points will win the game and receive additional points
for the quiz and Installation.
C. GENERALIZATION
What is Operating System?
Operating system is an interface between computer and user.It is responsible for
the management andcoordination of activities and the sharing of the resources of
the computer.
Its four essential Managers are:
o Memory manager - handles or manages primary memory and moves
processes back and forth between main memory and disk during
execution. It keeps track of each and every memory location, regardless
of either it is allocated to some process or it is free.
o Process manager – Allocates the CPU. The OS must allocate resources
to processes, enable processes to share and exchange information,
protect the resources of each process from other processes and
enable synchronization among processes.
o Device Manager - Manages I/O devices such as a keyboard, magnetic
tape, disk, printer, microphone, USB ports, scanner, camcorder etc.as
well as the supporting units like control channels.
o File manager – checks every type of file in the system such data files,
program files, compilers, and installed Applications. It sets permission so
that a certain user can only see certain files.
Examples are: MS-DOS, Windows, Mac OS, Linux, Solaris, Android
IV. EVALUATION:
1. Define Operating System. 5 points
2. Explain the importance of Operating System. 5 points
3. Give 5 examples of Operating System.
