AN INFINITE

WORLD

Vint Cerf and Bob Kahn are the creators of the internet. The
internet was created as a result of another experiment called
ARPANET.

No one really owns the internet. The internet is technically not

controlled by anyone either besides when new things need to be
added to the internet. The DHCP determines when new things
need to be added to the internet. The internet uses packets
to transmit data from place to place. The packets are
controlled by ROUTERS, that tell them where to go. The
TRANSMISSION CONTROL PROTOCOL manages the
sending and receiving of all data as packets.

The internet uses binary information in forms of bits.

Bits are data that the computer reads as either on or
off. The BIT RATE is the number of bits that can be
sent over a given amount of time. The amount of time
for the bits to get to a certain place is the LATENCY.
The maximum capacity that the device can hold is
known as the BANDWIDTH.

The 3 methods that we use to send bits across the internet are: electricity, light,
and radio. The ISP is the internet service provider. It allows you to access the
internet. The machines communicate with one another by the PROTOCOL. The
INTERNET PROTOCOL is one of the most important protocols used in the
internet. IP ADDRESSES are 32 bits long that include the device's country,
region, subnetwork, and device. The current IP address that is used is called
IPV4. There is a new IP addressing system called IPV6 that will have 128 bits.
The DOMAIN NAME is the name that is associated with a corresponding
address. The DOMAIN NAME SYSTEM is the system that gives the names their
corresponding addresses. A major problem with DNS is that it is public, so it
could be hacked into.
The difference between LAN and WAN is that LAN connects devices that use network
over short distances, while WAN connects those devices over long distances. When you
go on the internet and type out a website that you want to visit is an example of a URL.
HTTP is the language that is used to communicate between web browsers and servers.
HTTPS is when a website is secure. The language that you tell web browsers how to
make a page look is HTML. The two types of requests are Get and Post requests. A get
request is a request is when you request data from a resource. A post request is
sending data to a server to either create or upload the resource. COOKIES are what
websites use to remember who you are. The layer of security that are around your
communications is called SSL/TLS. DIGITAL CERTIFICATES verify the identity of a
webpage and issues a certificate to the website.

The hierarchical system of the internet starts with HTTP and DNS. They
manage the sending and receiving of the web files. Next is TCP/IP and routing.
They break down and transport the packets. Finally the wires, cables, and WIFI.
These three use binary sequences of 1's and 0's that are sent physically. A
MODEM converts data so it can be transported from computer to computer.
INTERNET SERVICE PROVIDERS, for example Comcast, all you to access the
internet as long as you pay a subscription. The IEFT develops and promotes the
standard of the internet.
