GERUND

Gerund adalah bentuk ing yang bukan continuous atau dengan kata lain adalah kata kerja
(Verb) yang berfungsi sebagai kata benda (noun).

Gerund dibagi menjadi 3 bagian :

1. Subject Gerund ( bentuk ing di awal kalimat )

a. Swimming is my hobby
b. Reading a book is very important for students
c. Drinking wine is not good for healthy and dangerous for young children
d. Travelling to Bali makes us happy
e. Climbing the tree makes me tired
2. Object Gerund ( dibagi menjadi verb gerund dan preposition gerund )
a. Verb Gerund : pada bagian ini ada beberapa kata kerja yang sudah ditentukan
sesuai dengan rumusannya bahwa dibelakang kata kerja yang sudah
ditentukan harus berbentuk ing ( gerund ).
Kata kerja tersebut adalah : stop, try, consider, hate, finish, like, enjoy,
postpone, admit, advice, avoid, forget, give up, remember, start, dislike, begin,
go, deny, prefer, teach, understand.
Contoh :
- I like cooking delicious food
- We start reading a book
- I enjoy listening the music
b. Preposition Gerund : pada bagian ini ada beberapa kata depan yang sudah
ditentukan sesuai dengan rumusannya bahwa dibelakang kata depan yang
sudah ditentukan harus berbentuk ing ( gerund ).
Kata depan tersebut adalah : in, on, at, for, before, after, with, without, about,
by, beside.
Contoh :
- By studying hard, we can get successfully
- I wash my hand after eating lunch
- Before going to school, we eat breakfast
- Don’t come here without bringing some flowers

3. Compliment Gerund yaitu gerund sebagai pelengkap dalam kalimat yang berfungsi
sebagai kata benda ( noun ) walau berasal dari kata kerja ( verb ).
Contoh :
a. I work in that building.
b. That is a good painting.
c. Her writing is great/good/fantastic
d. My best friend’s activity is shopping ice
 e. They discussed an article about telling the truth
f. I think about his asking me if I planned to study abroud
g. Their opinion, building a new school in this area is very important.
h. Our activity, helping the poor population midle low is very useful
