6. Identify four (4) techniques used for creating new ideas and being innovative.

1. Be curios and gather more information

2. Recognise innovation opportunities
3. Foster and innovation environment
4. Be futuristic and have visionary attitude

Brainstorming:
8. What is brainstorming?

Brainstorming is the name given to a situation when a group of people meet to generate new
ideas around a specific area of interest. Using rules which remove inhibitions, people are able to
think more freely and move into new areas of thought and so create numerous new ideas and
solutions. The participants shout out ideas as they occur to them and then build on the ideas

ILSC Business College: BSBINN301 & BSBWOR301 Assessment Version 4.0817 Page 6 of 27
raised by others. All the ideas are noted down and are not criticized. Only when the
brainstorming session is over are the ideas evaluated.

a. Label the diagram below to show the simple process of brainstorming in a team.

Asking about new ideas

depend on the specific are
of interest. Processing which ideas are
the best solution
I got it!!!!!
Sharing and dialogue the Path to the success

b. How is mind mapping used with brainstorming?

The mind mapping help us to organize our ideas and consider the relationship between them
when we are expanding our thinking on a topic. There are two stages in the process:

1. Free thinking and producing ideas

2. Identifying relationships, organising ideas

c. How can you encourage people to talk and contribute their ideas?

1. Make dialogue for your team or group about ideas of how their organization can change
talking with each other to solve the problem

2. Ask for opinions and then listen carefully, it will increase the probability that people will
bring new ideas

ILSC Business College: BSBINN301 & BSBWOR301 Assessment Version 4.0817 Page 7 of 27
3. Share your personal perspectives and stories

4. Recognize every suggestion and celebrate the ones that are implemented

5. Create a dynamic dialogue in which people find it easy and natural to cooperate with one
another to create a common goal through making a poster, ask a questions instead of
presenting information and a friendly environment where they can find new ideas.

9. Explain the importance of having diversity in teams?

The importance of having diversity in teams is because diversity can help ensure that a team has
the skills and knowledge necessary for the successful completion of tasks. Diverse teams, as long
as they are well managed, tend to be more creative and achieve goals more efficiently.
In addition diversity also gives you access to a greater range of talent, not just the talent that
belongs to a particular world view or ethnicity or some other restricting definition. It helps
provide insight into the needs and motivations of all of your client or customer base, rather than
just a small part of it.

Activity 2: Develop effective ways to work and support colleagues

10. Scenario
You are a valuable member of a new project team for a marketing company who is developing
an advertising campaign for a fresh line of products. The success of the project will depend on
the team’s ability to work together, brainstorm ideas, communicate effectively and meet
deadlines to deliver an innovative campaign on budget.

a. Set at least six (6) ground rules for your team to follow that allows for creativity.

 Be clear with the objectives to be developed

 Be focused on the objectives
 Listen everyone carefully as equals. Everyone has the opportunity to expose their
ideas.
 Honestly and candidly group participation to solve problems and developing
strategies from learned failures
 Maintain confidentiality when it is appropriated
 Keep open mind in all the suggestions made from your team, it might be a
possible solutions or proposals to achieve the main objective.

ILSC Business College: BSBINN301 & BSBWOR301 Assessment Version 4.0817 Page 8 of 27
b. When allocating or sharing responsibilities within the team, it is important to be
transparent, inclusive, fair and equitable. What does this mean?

It means to be transparent in all aspects when we are developing brainstorming ideas and
communication process to be everybody on the same page dividing the same amount of
workload in an equitable way. The creation of roles also help us to be more efficiency in the
development of processes being focused in each objective to get the best result with less
workload, equilibrating responsibilities to deliver the best innovative campaign or budget
decision.

c. What would the team use to plan and schedule activities to keep the project on track?

Trough Gantt chart as a good method to track the whole project because it helps us ensure
that the schedule is workable, that right people are assigned to each task, and we have
workarounds for potential problems before starting and also the length and deadlines for
each processes.

d. List the top five (5) characteristics you think the team needs to innovate effectively?

 Value and celebrate team member’s creative and innovative contributions

 Manage the time effectively, providing opportunities for the team to explore,
concentrate for extended periods of time, reflect, discuss and review to make
connections between ideas.

 Develop codes of practice when were are developing processes that value and promote
innovation and creativity.

 Encourage sensible risk taking, being more open mind when we are trying something
new.

 Creating a climate in the thinking processes by providing and environment that supports
innovation can be very powerful.

e. If someone on your team does something great, the project comes in on time and under
budget, or the team produces a winning campaign, recognise the success. How can team
members be recognised?

ILSC Business College: BSBINN301 & BSBWOR301 Assessment Version 4.0817 Page 9 of 27
Team members can be recognised as simple as treating them to a lunch and discussing their
success in detail. Understand what they loved about the success, how it made them feel and if
there was space for possible improvement. It is likely that team members are passionate about
recent goals, and we will open to sharing about it. Recognizing our team members increase the
moral and ensure that the most valued colleagues stick for a good.

f. How could members share ideas for future products and services, or suggest different ways
of doing thing on an ongoing basis?
 Sharing storytelling as a start point when were are exposing something to everyone
doing the rest of the team be proactive and sharing different points of view in the
development of ideas.
 Creating a creative environment where everybody feel confident to share ideas
 Be aligned with the priorities of key decision makers (marketing campaign)
 Reviewing the plan with the team members being always communicating which ideas
could be relevant or irrelevant for an efficiency delivery at the end being more proactive
each other.
 Transparent, clear and honest Participation for everybody to achieve the expected
objectives.

Activity 3: Work Plan

Study the two work plans A & B. Choose the plan you believe will bring the advertising campaign
in on time, on budget and make efficient use of resources.

1. Which plan is better? Provide at least three (3) reasons for your choice.
The better option is B. The reason why is the following:

 The distribution of tasks are assigned to each staff for being developed and they know
what is the work to be done according to the time frames; it means there will not going

ILSC Business College: BSBINN301 & BSBWOR301 Assessment Version 4.0817 Page 10 of 27
to be delays in delivering the campaign. Time for reviewing goals have a prudent time to
be checked.

 The lunch time is almost connected with all of them it means that they can share their
work each other and also to know each of them in which step is the campaign going

 Las stage the team design meeting, we suppose, is to deliver the result of the campaign
without delays to the client.

2. What would happen if a team member didn’t make deadline. How could this be avoided?

The cause of this should be examined. If it’s due to poor training, this can be fixed. If it’s due to poor
resources (e,g, a lack of funds, or not enough equipment) this also can be altered.

It could also be poorly communicated deadlines or expectations, or the team members simply don’t
hold the skills/competences to perform well.

To avoid that issue we have constantly check the time frames to minimize the risk to not complete
the task assigned. Meetings also help to keep us on track about the work that is being developed for
each area or staff members and also reviewing the plan every time to be willing if we are
compromise with the plan schedule designed by the manager.

Activity 4: Reflect on how the team is working

12. Research the meaning of Continuous Improvement in the workplace. Provide a reference of
your information source.

A continuous improvement strategy is any policy or process within a workplace that helps keep
the focus on improving the way things are done on a regular basis. This could be through regular
incremental improvements or by focusing on achieving larger process improvements.

Facilities that focus on continuous improvement become more competitive over time and can
maintain their advantages in their industry, but only if the improvement efforts are done
correctly. Taking good baseline measurements and taking ongoing measurements will help
identify the effectiveness of the efforts being made.

a. Write PDCA Cycle diagram in the space below and write a brief description on each stage
of continuous improvement.

PLAN Identify and analyse the problem or opportunity, develop hypotheses about
what the issues may be, and decide which one to test.

DO Test the potential solution, ideally on a small scale, and measure the results.
