Perks of being a STEM Student

(Pia Ruita)

When I was still in Grade 10, I can hear every whisper echoing that Stem is hard and that
it is only for the brave ones.
STEM. Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.
I am a STEM student, a proud one. I won’t regret the fact that at first, I was a bit
uncomfortable with the strand because of the foresights I had in mind. But, as I interact with my
co-STEMians, my heart starts to beat regularly with it. I fell in love with the one I never thought
I’d fall for.
Others would say, STEM is hard but what I do believe is, one’s mind makes it harder.
Learning to live with it will surely set your ship sail. Be a STEM student and be a part with these
experiences.
We, the STEM students, calculate solutions. We always have our scientific calculators to
find answers not only to solve equations but also to rationally solve real-life situations. We conduct
researches left and right and perform activities like we really are already in the field of true
profession. We calculate solutions now to find answers as we become future doctors, engineers,
programmers, and anything we want to be as long as we dream.
We, the STEM students, experiment possibilities. Just like any other students, we try our
best to create and propagate potentials. In school, we don’t practice unhealthy competitions, rather,
we, as one, take a step closer on the ladder of success. We enter the science lab and conduct
experiments to have a better vision of the smallest thing around us just like how we learned to set
things right. We develop one’s capability with interaction. STEM students work with biology and
mathematics and through it, we learned to love and respect every single prokaryote existing.
We, the STEM students, innovate change. Maybe one of the reasons why other students
don’t take the risk of enrolling for STEM strand because they might think that it is a nightmare
but, for us who already took the risk, it is truly a sweet dream. We have added a twist for
“immediate deadlines and loads of school works”; we mixed it with craziness because as what
others say, if the more you problem the problem, the more the problem will problem you. Mind-
boggling right? That is STEM, too. Unravel the puzzle and you’ll surely find a way.
So, future, SHS students, don’t hinder your hearts and hesitate to enter the strand. If you
worry on facing the complicated equations in mathematics and lots of terms to ponder in science,
erase it in your mind. I, myself, admit that I’m not that good in dealing with those subjects
mentioned but, I never gave up; I tried. Always remember that you are sent to school to learn and
experience difficulties. All you have to do is to deal with it and let your heart beat with it. Craft
ideas and I promise you, it will all be worth it in the end  I am a living-proof.
