Product: RADWIN 2000 Alpha

Problem: Convert Alpha RT-B (HSU) to RT-A (HBS) cause the unit to stop functioning

Phenomenon:
When login to RADWIN 2000 Alpha (by default function as RT-B (HSU)) and “Change ODU Mode”
to RT-A (HBS), the unit is reset and the management to the unit is lost (WEB and RADWIN
manager). The unit response only to ping for about 30-40 seconds and reset again.

Affected units:
RADWIN 2000 Alpha units that shipped from 15/7/2018 – 31/10/2018

Resolution:
I. Unit that already changed mode to RT-A (HBS)
RADWIN developed a tool that enables to recover the unit. Recover the unit is done in 2
steps:
1) Running a tool that stops the unit from reset every few seconds and recovers the
communication with the unit via WEB interface
2) Upgrades the unit via the WEB interface recovers the communication with the unit via
RADWIN manager

How to recover unit that already changed mode to RT-A (HBS)


1. Please use the FTP link below to download and extract the Recovery tool to your PC
Alpha_Recovery_Tool.zip

2. Please use the FTP link below to download the 4.9.50 Software Upgrade file (SWU). The
file is compressed (ZIP) and need to be extracted 4.9.50_SWUL
3. Please connect your PC to the Alpha unit and ping the unit continuously ("ping IP
Address -t")

4. Please open a Command Prompt (CMD) and select the folder where you extracted the
Recovery tool (e.g c:\AlphaTool)

5. As soon as the unit stop the reply to ping, enter the following command:
"fixAlphCPE5.exe IP Address"

6. The tool continuously keeps trying to access and recover the unit.
Note that the tool might fail on the first and second attempts however it keeps trying to
access the unit as soon as the ping reply is back again.
Leave the tool running (even if the ping reply is lost) until it will display the following
confirmation request: “Update cached key?” (see below screen shot).
Once this request appears, type "y" and press Enter.

7. The tool will complete the process and will display “worked OK!” indication for a
successful recovery process (see below screen shot).

8. Upon successful process, the unit will be reset automatically, and the ping reply will
become stable again

9. After verify that the ping is stable, access the unit via the WEB Management and go to
"Tools" > "Unit" > "Software Upgrade", press the "Upload" button to select the
"SWUL_5k.swul" file you downloaded and extracted

10. Run the upgrade process according to the WEB management instructions.

11. After the upgrade is completed, open RADWIN manager and verify that the unit is
accessible. At this point you can set the unit to RT-A (HBS) if needed.

II. New unit (come as RT-B(HSU) by default)


Perform software upgrade to the same version (4.9.50) and reset the unit. This process fixes
the issue and the unit can work as RT-B(HSU) or can be changed to RT-A (HBS). It is require
to perform the upgrade even if the unit intend to be used as RT-B(HSU).
Note - Don’t “Change ODU Mode” to RT-A (HBS) before upgrading the unit

How to upgrade the unit


Option A - Perform upgrade via the RADWIN manager
1. Below you can find a link to download RADWIN manager 4.9.58

Below the FTP link to download the 4.9.50 SWU (Zipped).

Download the 4.9.50 SWU file and save it in a directory on your PC/Server.
2. In the software upgrade window of the RADWIN manager click the "Upgrade
package", browse the directory where the 4.9.50 SWU file is located and select it.

The file will be uploaded to the RADWIN manager and you can start the upgrade
process.
3. After the upgrade completed, login to the unit via the manager and verify that the
number of the version is 4.9.50

Option B - Perform upgrade via the WEB interface


Please find FTP link to download the 4.9.50 SWUL (Zipped) 4.9.50_SWUL
1. Download the 4.9.50 SWUL file and save it in a directory on your PC/Server.
2. Ping the RT-B (HSU) and verify IP connectivity to the unit. The default IP address of the
unit is 10.0.0.120
3. Login to the unit via the web browser (Chrome is recommended) http://10.0.0.120
4. Go to “Tools” -> “Unit” and select the Software Upgrade (SWUL).
5. Click Manual upload and locate the SWUL_5k.swul file. The name, size and status of the
file will be shown.
6. Once you are sure that this is the correct file to use, select it, and click Open. The file will
be uploaded to the unit and validated. A description of the file will be displayed. Once
you are sure that this is the correct file, click Install. The upgrade procedure will
commence, and when completed, an indication will be shown, and the unit will be reset.
7. Login to the unit and verify that the number of the version appears at the bottom of the
“User Login” window and that you can login to the unit.
