3.1.Instantaneous over current relay(back power latch)

Criterion of action:
Imax=max(Ia, Ib, Ic)
Imax>Isdg during motor rated startup time
Or Imax>Isdd after motor rated startup time
t>tsd
In formula,
Imax:maximum value of phase A,B,C current(I a, Ib, Ic)(A)
Isdg:instantaneous over current relay high level(instantaneous over current value during motor
startup)(A)
Isdd:instantaneous over current relay low level(instantaneous over current value after motor
startup)(A)
tsd:instantaneous over current relay delay time(s)
The protection can avoid transient peak current during motor startup.
To prevent instantaneous over current relay misacting because of motor reverse high-current when
external fault, the protection sets the function of back power block Instantaneous over current relay. If
back power latch Instantaneous over current launch, when current and voltage have the same direction,
opening the protection; when current and voltage have different direction, latching the protection.

3.2. Negative sequence current relay 1 (46)

Criterion of action:
I2>I21dz
t>t21dz
In formula,
I 2: negative sequence current(A)
I21dz:negative sequence current relay 1 level(A)
t21dz:negative sequence current relay 1 delay time(s)
negative sequence current relay 1 delay time should avoid longest clear fault time of motor outside
quarter-phase short circuit. In FC loop, negative sequence current relay 1 should avoid fuse break time
of unsymmetrical short circuit.

3.3. Negative sequence current relay 2 (46)

Criterion of action:
I2>I22dz
t>t22dz
In formula,
I22dz:negative sequence current relay 2 level(A)
t22dz:negative sequence current relay 2 delay time(s)

3.4.Instantaneous zero sequence relay(50N)

Zero sequence current of motor, obtained by zero sequence current transformer, makes up motor
single-phase ground protection. In prevention of mis-operation created by unbalanced current with higher

3-7
WDZ-430EX Motor Management Relay Technical Instruction

motor startup current, the protection adapts maximum of phase current I max as restraint value. Action
characteristic shows in figure 3.2.
I0>I0dz When Imax≤ 1.05Ie
Or I0>[1+(Imax/Ie-1.05)/4]I0dz When Imax>1.05Ie
t0>t0dz
In formula,
I0:zero sequence multiple current of motor
I0dz:instantaneous zero sequence relay level(times)
Ie:motor rated current(A)
t0dz:instantaneous zero sequence relay delay time(s)
Zero sequence rated current determined by neutral point ground current. The equipment supply two
options, I0e=0.02A and I0e=0.2A. When neutral point low ground current, I0e=0.02A;when of neutral point

3.5.Motor thermal relay

The equipment can operate under any work condition. With the consideration of difference between
positive sequence and negative sequence current heat effect, create motor thermal model, which can supply
accuracy motor thermal relay. Adopt heat equivalent current Ieq in heating model, expression is:

I  K I2  K I2
eq 11 2 2
In formula,
K1 =0.5 during motor rated startup time
=1 after motor rated startup time
K2 =3-10 this equipment is 6

3-8
WDZ-430EX Motor Management Relay Technical Instruction

K1 changes during startup, K2 means negative sequence current heat effect in heating model, in scale
K2 equals to two times of ratio of rotor AC resistance and DC resistance because heat effect of
negative sequence current in rotor is much higher than positive sequence current. According to
theory and experience, this equipment adopts 6.
Motor accumulative superheating value θ Σ is:

t
θ 2   1.05 I  2dt   I 2   1.05 I  2Δt
  I eq
Σ e   eq e 
0   
In formula,
Δ t:accumulative thermal value calculating interval, this equipment adopts Δ t=0.1s.
Motor trip thermal value(permission) θ T is:

 T  I e2  Tfr
In formula,
Tfr:motor radiate thermal time coeff(s)
When θ Σ >θ T, motor thermal relay act, θ Σ =0 means motor reached heat balance, without
accumulative thermal value. To express convenience, degree of motor accumulative thermal value
is expressed by overheat ratioθ r:
θ Σ
θ r=
θ T

When θ r>1.0, motor thermal relay act. In order to make operation personnel known, when θ r

exceed overheat alarm definite value θ a, the equipment alarm first.

On condition of cold position(initial overheat value θ Σ =0), motor thermal relay action time is:
Tfr
t=
K1(I1/Ie)2+K2(I2/Ie)2-1.052
When motor stops, accumulative thermal value will decay step by step. Thermal value decay according
to principle of index value. Decay time constant is four times of motor radiat thermal time Tsr , that is to say,
after Tsr, radiating end, motor reach heat balance again.

3.6. Thermal trip blocking startup

After motor stops because of motor thermal relay, this protection immediately check whether overheat
ratio θ r degrade under set thermal blocking startup level θ b , if not, output relay not return, forbid motor
startup again. It can avoid heating up trigged by startup current too high to damage motor. When overheat ratio
θ r high, motor needs emergent startup, push “ reset” on panel of equipment, artificially clear memorized
overheat ratio θ r.

3.7.Mechanical jam relay

Mechanical jam relay is made up of motor speed switch (switch 1) and phase current.
Criterion of action:
Imax>Iddz
t>tddz
speed switch is on
In formula,

3-9
WDZ-430EX Motor Management Relay Technical Instruction

Iddz:mechanical jam relay current value(A)

tddz:mechanical jam relay delay time(s)
This protection needs motor speed switch signal.

3.8.Long-time startup relay

Firstly, calculate start time during motor startup tqdj:

tqdj=( )2×tyd
Iqdm

In formula ,
tqdj:calculated start time(s)
Iqde:motor rated startup current(A)
Iqdm:maximum of motor startup current(A)
tyd:motor permitted mechanical jam time(s)
Identifying, if during the calculated start time tqdj, Imax<1.125Ie, motor successful start, long-time
startup relay algorithm end; if after the calculated start time t qdj, Imax>1.125Ie, motor unsuccessful start,
long-time startup relay start.
The longest time of Long-time startup relay is 10s.

3.9. Positive sequence current relay

The flowing conditions satisfied, positive sequence current relay enabled.
The long-time startup relay algorithm end;
Start time exceed set motor permitted mechanical jam time, t>tyd;
If one of the flowing conditions satisfied, considering the long-time startup relay algorithm end
If long-time startup relay launch: reference long-time startup relay logic;
If long-time startup relay withdraw, Imax<1.125Ie;
Criterion of action:
I1>I1gl
t1>t1gl
In formula,
I1gl:positive sequence current relay level(A)
t1gl:positive sequence current relay delay time(s)
Customer not launch long-time startup relay should be noted that, this protection need to set not only
positive sequence current relay level I1gl and positive sequence current relay delay time t1gl but also motor
rated startup current Iqde and motor permitted mechanical jam time tyd.

3.10.Overload relay
Criterion of action:

tgfh:overload relay delay time(s)

3-10
WDZ-430EX Motor Management Relay Technical Instruction

3.11. Under voltage relay(27)

When motor bus voltage under Uqy and time is longer than delay time tqy , relay trip to protect motor.
In order to prevent VT circuit off mis-operation , under voltage relay set to be latched when VT circuit off.
Criterion of action:
Umax=max(Uab, Ubc, Uca)

Umax<Uqy
t>tqy
Before under voltage relay start, Umax>1.05Uqy
In formula,
Uqy:under voltage relay voltage value(V)
tqy:under voltage relay delay time(s)
In order to assure the electrical locking of power plant can operate reliably, when bus without
voltage、motor without current、switch on, and the upper criterion of action can’ t startup under
voltage relay, using the flowing auxiliary criterion to startup under voltage relay trip.

U max  5V

3.12. VT circuit off

This device have the function of detecting VT circuit off. When VT circuit off, under voltage relay to be
latched instantly, and after 15s sendout alarm signal.
When three phase VT circuit off simultaneously, at this time it has current but no voltage, criterion of VT
circuit off:
U max  5V

 I max  I e / 4
When one or two phase VT circuit off, at this time it has high unbalanced voltage, criterion of VT circuit
off::
U max  5V

 I max  I e / 4
(U  U ) / U
 max min max  30%

After the voltage recovery normal, release VT circuit off latch and alarm.

3.13.FC circuit fault-current latch trip

In FC circuit, if current is higher than the rated drop-out current of contactor, and trip through contactor,
the contactor can be burn-out. At this time should break the fault current through fuse.
Principle and criterion of action:
When the current is higher than drop-out current of contactor, latch local and remote trip.

3-11
WDZ-430EX Motor Management Relay Technical Instruction

I max  I fcbs
In formula,
Ifcbs: F-C overflowing latch current level(A).

3.14. Fuse relay

In FC circuit, when current is higher than the burn-out current of fuse, the fuse begin to burn out. When
the fuse completely burn out, switch of contactor trip off. Because the burn-out current of fuse is curve, can’ t
gain the value accurately, so using the instantaneous over current relay level.
Attention: if device provides I/O board, should lead in switch position through switch 4.
