1. Objective :
Smooth Operation of FD Fans- 2 Nos.
2. Scope :
This SOP is applicable for 2 Nos. of FD Fans.
3. Introduction:
The Secondary air is used for proper combustion of coal in the furnace. Its
suction is from atmosphere & discharge is going through APH (hot air goes to
Wind Box).

5. Responsibility:
Unit Control Engineer, Desk Engineer and Field Operator.
6. Safety Precautions:
1. Field operator Ensure No Permit to Work is pending on regarding this system by
checking with CCR.
2. Proper function of interlock /protection.
1. No PTW is pending.
2. The Oil tank is adequately filled and ensure oil tank level is > 55%.
5. All manholes in Air path, Flue gas path, Furnace are in closed condition.
6. APH inlet SA dampers are open. Dampers power supply is ON.
9. Keep one lube oil cooler in service (i.e.) Open DMCW inlet, outlet valves.
10. Fan Discharge gate are in close position. Gate power supply is ON.
11. ID fan in service.
12. APH is in service.
13. Check proper function of emergency switch.( Both fan & LOP’s)
14. Never run the Fan/Motor without protection /interlock.
1. Start one oil pump. Observe discharge pressure and flow. Ensure its healthiness &
keep second pump in interlock.
2. Start FD fan & monitor the starting current and note starting time.
3. Ensure that the discharge gate start open simultaneously with the start of fan motor.
4. Observe for abnormal sound, Vibration, Bearing temperature and Winding temp.
5. Increase blade pitch & keep watch on fan discharge pressure & secondary wind box
inlet pressure and record the blade opening position.
6. Start one oil pump. Observe discharge pressure and flow. Ensure its healthiness &
keep second pump in interlock..
7. Give start command to second FD fan.
8. Open blade pitch of fan and decrease blade pitch of running fan.
9. Make blade pitch of both fan equal by parallel operation.
10. If there is any considerable deviation between loadings of both fans, Give biasing
between pitch controls of fans to keep the fan’s current almost equal.
Note:
A. Deviation of parameters / Abnormalities from normal should be reported to
CCR & respective maintenance personnel.
B. Motor & Pump temp. has to be sensed by hand touch & if found abnormal
then, reported to concerned person & maintain record in log book.
C. Motor & Pump vibration to be sensed via hand touch & if found abnormal then,
reported to concerned person & maintain record in log book.
D. Oil level & greasing of the equipment to be monitor in regular interval.
