Dear Families,
Welcome to MCA! My name is Sarah Gascon and I will be your child’s teacher
this school year along with my assistant, Ms. Smith.
Little Saints Preschool is part of Mother Catherine Academy
with school hours from 7:30 a.m.3:00 p.m. We ask for your
child to arrive on time everyday so that they do not miss any
important instruction.
Educational Philosophy:
As educators of young children, it is our goal to instruct the whole child. Through play,
developmentally appropriate curriculum and project based learning we will strive to
develop each student’s sense of self, community, God and family. Also, it is our goal to
help each child develop their skills in all the major developmental areas including fine
and gross motor, reading, writing, math and science.
Important Reminders:
In the lower grades we have several children who have severe nut allergies.
Something as innocent as exposure to nut vapors can sometimes trigger a severe allergic
reaction! Therefore, grades Prek through 2 nd Grade have adopted a peanut and tree
nut free environment policy for the school year. It is important that classroom snacks
and lunches be free of all nuts and/or nut products. Examples of items containing nut
products include, but are not limited to, peanut butter, almond butter, Nutella, peanut
butter crackers, trail mix, many granola bars etc. Alternative nut free options include
fruit, vegetables, plain or cheese crackers, cheese sticks, sun butter, etc. Your
cooperation in this matter is greatly appreciated as it is our goal to provide a safe
environment for all of our students. If you have any questions about an item you would
like to pack for your child, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Snack is offered every morning along with a small glass of milk or juice. A small
glass of milk is also offered at lunch. We ask that you bring in healthy snacks for your
child to eat during snack and lunch. Healthy snacks include: pretzels, yogurt, fruit,
vegetables, and graham crackers just to name a few.
Every day, your child will bring home their Daily
Communication Binder. This will contain any completed work
we are ready to send home, documentation of your child’s
behavior (explained in detail later in the packet) and any other
pertinent communication. Please sign and return this folder in
your child’s book bag each day. Every Wednesday, the oldest
MCA child in each family will be bringing home a school folder known as the
“Wednesday Folder” containing important notices and forms that must be completed
and returned to school. Please return any papers and the Wednesday Folder the next
day. However, please keep any notes for me separately in your child’s Daily
Communication Binder.
Class Dojo
Grades PreK through 2nd Grade have adopted the Class Dojo Program. This program is
a point based system that allows children to earn or lose points based
upon their behavior. This information is shared with you in real time on
the Dojo app or website. Each child has their own individual code and
only you and the teacher can see your child’s profile and what points
they have earned or lost. At the end of each day, children who earn 90%
or higher of positive points will receive a sticker to place on their daily chart. Children
who collect at least 4 stickers each week will be able to choose from the treasure box on
Friday. It is our expectation that all our students will achieve this goal, and we are here
to help them do it! You should have received an invitation to join our class on Dojo
already via email. If not, please let me know. If you have any further questions of how
this program works, feel free to contact me.
Here are a few reminders to help get the school year off to a smooth start.
