The very purpose of e-government is to provide information to the citizens easily. It should
also provide a 2 way channel between the employees and the customers (citizens).
Information is critical for running a transparent government. With the advent of social
networking through sites like Facebook and twitter, e-government has had a boost since it is
an easy way to connect to people at once. Also Web2.0 is defined to use open data. So the
governments are posting data collected by them through these sites, which can be easily
accessed by the customers. The traditional e-government portals were made for the same
reason but they could only reach a smaller population of people. Only those actually
interested in this field would subscribe to the traditional e-government portals. This made it
difficult to inform people about an issue at once. This is the biggest advantage of using social
networking in e-government. On the other hand, traditional systems have the ability to reach
only the interested lot rather than providing information openly to the people.
Advantages : Disabled voters can now easily vote through systems made specifically for them. It
also eliminates the possibility of overvote. Also there is no need to take care of physical
machines.
Shortcomings : These electronic systems like every other system have the vulnerability to be
hacked. Once hacked, it renders the whole process of voting as fake. Especially, people need to
be employed for proper encryption of data. If some malicious software attacks the system, it
might corrupt the system which can then wreak havoc on the collected data.
Corporate managers are constantly looking for more cost-effective ways to deliver training to
their employees.
E-learning is less expensive than traditional classroom instruction. In addition, many expenses –
booking training facilities, travel costs for employees or trainers, plus employee time away from
the job – are greatly reduced.
It also provides the learners freedom to study at the time they want. The data of one person can
be compared with that of another person in such cases at a bigger scale easily. Free and open
source software helps in providing easy solutions to e-learning service.
Also people can collaborate with people from other corporations too. These systems also provide
mobility, since many of them can be installed in mobiles also.
Corporations can even ask for personalized learning tools which is easier these days.
4. In what ways does KM support e-commerce?
Knowledge management (KM) is the collection of processes that govern the acquisition,
creation, dissemination, and utilization of knowledge. Organizations are beginning to attach huge
importance to customer knowledge as customer attitudes, their purchasing habits and their
becoming increasingly more knowledgeable is having a huge effect on the way the products and
services are being consumed.
The Internet facilitates the construction and sharing of knowledge amongst consumers, but
appears to strengthen barriers and boundaries between consumers and companies.
With the constant increase in the use of machine learning, these systems are being made more
robust and can accommodate more types of queries from the customers.
One the other hand, Business-to-employee (B2E) electronic commerce uses an intrabusiness
network which allowscompanies to provide products and/or services to their employees.
Typically, companies use B2Enetworks to automate employee-related corporate processes.
G2C business involves everything from grants and loans to copies of property transactions and
credit reports. Government contracts can be very lucrative and constitute a huge market for
government to consumer businesses. Consumer to government markets are built by consumers
looking for safe investments through bonds and other safe investment vehicles. In the
government to consumer marketplace, consumers are protected by regulations and agencies that
keep watch on the public safety.
