Course : Speaking for General Purposes

Course Description
This course is aimed at establishing students’ speaking competencies in using language
expressions commonly used in general settings (at public places e.g. at the market, at the
bank, at school, at the restaurant etc.). The language expressions include greetings and
leave-takings, making introduction, introducing others, apologizing, asking for and offering
help, asking for and giving opinion, stating agreement and disagreement, describing people
(physical appearance and personality traits), asking for and giving directions. The
classroom activities mainly comprise creating and performing monologs and dialogs using
such techniques as drill, role play, and games. Audio, visual and audio visual media like
recordings, pictures, posters and video are employed to enhance the quality of the teaching
and learning process. Then, students’ achievement is measured by taking into account their
ability in using the language expressions learned properly in the form of dialogs through
creating and performing dialogs spontaneously

Objective of the Course


By the end of the course, students are expected to be able to use the proper language
expressions learned in general settings.

Evaluation
Final score is based on followings:
1. daily Performance (20%),
2. presenting Idea(s) (30%), and
3. final Project (50%).

Rules
• Final score is given to those whose presence is 80%.
• Unstated rules here will be discussed further in the first meeting during course
outline overview discussion.
