2.00 Discussion: Salaries and Commissions (10 points)

Talk to 3 adults you know and ask them, "What is your job title? Are you paid by salary, hourly
wage, commission, or tips?" Go to one of the following websites to find an approximate pay for that
position. (Remember, the person you interviewed is not necessarily making this
salary. Experience, location, responsibilities, duties, and education can affect it.)

• Salary.com Salary Range (This one requires you to pick a salary range first. Pick either entry level
or middle level if you are not sure of about where this would fall.)
• monster.com Salary Wizard (Select job category and enter your zip code. Click on Search. Then
check jobs that best fit and click on Compare Selected. At the bottom of each job description, click
the View Salary Info button to see salary information.)
• Payscale.com Salary Report (On this site, go to the text box in the upper left and type the position,
years in the field, and location. Then select “I am researching a job that is not my own” and
answer the questions that follow. You will get a median salary result.)
Example: I did this search using the Payscale link: Information Technology Specialist, 1
year experience, Bloomsburg, PA. After answering the questions, my results showed a
median salary of $36,858.

For each adult you asked, post:

• The job title

• The type of payment (salary, hourly, commission, etc.)
• The average or median salary
Be sure to respond to 2 other student’s post and to any responses to your post.
