FORMAT & LAYOUT OF THE SUMMER TRAINING REPORT

The Summer Training Report will be prepared on the below given format
irrespective of the chosen area of specialization.

• The report should be a minimum of 80 and a maximum of 150 pages long.
• The report shall be made in duplicate (Two Hard Bound Copies and 1 Spiral bind). One
copy will be submitted to the college and the student will retain the Spiral bind copy.
• The report will also be submitted in the final format in soft copy (The student will get
the report CD written). The CDs will be collected along with the report by the major
advisor.
• The content should be 12 font size and headings should be 14 font sizes, Times New
Roman.
The line spacing should be 1.5
Use of any other font is not permissible.
• Right, top and bottom margins will be one inch and the left margin will be according to
the binding requirements but not exceeding two inches.
• The use of “headers & footers” is forbidden.
• The report is a formal research report and the use of embellishments and adornments
like exotic text, graphics and layout is forbidden. The use of pictures or photographs shall
be allowed if needed.
• The use of figures and tables will be controlled. Figures should not be used to merely
increase the page count. In case the table is explanatory enough, advisors will discourage
the use of figures and graphs.
• Intellectual property rights shall be respected and utmost care would be taken to ensure
that the report is an original work. Any breach of faith in this regard shall be viewed with
utmost seriousness.
• Downloaded matter will not be allowed. The student will have to write it in his or her
own words and use the material from books, sites, journals and newspapers for reference
only.
Detailed description of the desired contents of the Chapters of the report are:

Chapter 1. Introduction: The chapter will dwell upon the theoretical and conceptual
background of the research problem. It will discuss the emergence and evolution of the
problem. The implications on the market will also be discussed. The chapter shall clearly
highlight the “need for the study” which is the rational and reason for the conducted
research. The Chapter 1 on introduction shall end with the objectives of the study.

Chapter 2. Review of Literature: The chapter on review of literature shall examine the
available literature on the topic. The literature cited can be empirical research studies on
the particular issue or allied issues; it can also be popular articles from various referred
and non referred sources.

Chapter 3. Research Methodology: The chapter shall outline the research design, the
sampling design, data collection and analysis.

Chapter 4. Analysis and Discussion: The collected data will be analyzed and this
chapter shall carry the observations, analyses and interpretations. The chapter shall be
framed in a narrative style and not question after question.

Chapter 5. Conclusions: The student shall present his deductions based on his
observations and analysis thereof.

Evaluation
The final project is worth 100 marks. The evaluation worth 100 marks will be based on
the judgment of the major advisor. The major advisor will consult the minor advisors in
this regard.
Following are broad guidelines (not rules) for the parameters of judgment.
• Originality of work
• Intensity of statistical analysis
• Use of software tools
• Significance and nature of topic selected
• Timeliness of meeting checkpoints
• Nature of conclusions and insight generated
