Chapter 1
INTRODUCTION

Background of the Study

The uses of mobile phones have increased ever since the turn of the century. In

the current era, almost everyone has mobile phone and even if they don’t own one, they

still know how to use such devices.

Mobile phones have revolutionized the everyday life of human beings from

entertainment, education, and communication. Before, it was only possible through

handwritten mails which takes a long time for the message to be relayed and returned.

Lined telephones, moreover, is a better option than mail letters but has a limitation in using

it. Nowadays, communication has never been easier with the rise of mobile phones,

messages can be relayed and returned faster. Mobile phones are more portable and have

more uses in comparison to lined telephones. According to Ishii (2016), mobile phones are

not only for communication anymore. Students can get to the web, send or get text

messages, browse email, and even have a video chat with others truly from the palm of

their hand. What's more, students also can get to a different Social Network Sites (SNS)

from their cell phones.

Researchers Boyd and Ellison (2008) clarified that SNS are online administrations

that enable individuals to make a profile, make a rundown of different clients who offer an

association with the client, and view the arrangements of associations, made by others

inside that framework.

Despite all the benefits brought upon mobile phones, it still has it disadvantages.

One would be addiction to the device which might lead to poor sleeping habits and an

overall unhealthy lifestyle.

According to Misha, A. (2017) sleep loss is one of the regular issue of present day

social orders, Inadequate rest has been related with a rainbow of physical and

physiological wellbeing shortages, including disabled capacity to focus and hold data, state

of mind issue, impeded engine aptitudes, and less fortunate generally wellbeing and

body's normal protection component.

The research gap that the group is trying to fill in are the students who conform the

proper usage of their mobile phones. The purpose of this study is to know what could be

the effect of improper use of mobile phones to their sleeping habits.
