John 19:26-27 (NIV)
26 When Jesus saw his
mother there, and the
disciple whom he loved
standing nearby, he said to
her, “Woman, here is your
son,”
27 and to the
disciple, “Here is
your mother.” From
that time on, this
disciple took her
into his home.
2. “Woman”: A Word of Distinction
Mary is NOT the mother of God.
JESUS never called Mary, “Mother”
in the Bible.

a) JESUS is DIVINE, Mary was human

b) JESUS is CREATOR, Mary was a

LOVE and CONCERN
As Jesus hung on the cross, He knew
that soon, his suffering will end in
death as the ultimate sacrifice
required by His Father in heaven.
He will be victorious and return to
the Father; but, how about Mary?

Mary’s heart”
(Luke 2:35):

• the anguish of
witnessing the
suffering of her
son;

• The pain of being neglected by her other
children.

RESPONSIBILITY

The beloved disciple,

John, was charged
with responsibility
to take care of Mary
as his own mother.

Meaning, he will love

her, provide for her,
and give her a
home.

John cheerfully
accepted the
responsibility,
immediately, not
objecting to the
troubles, expenses,
nor its effects to his
obligations to his
own family…
 “…Here is your son…
…Here is your mother.”

What an example
of family love, of
concern, and
responsibility.
