My Reflection to Freedom Writers Movie

“A teacher must be devoted to his/her students”. This was seen in the movie
“Freedom Writers”, where a teacher who suffer to teach her students to have respect. A
freshmen students was disrespect to their teacher, named Mrs. Gruwell. Mrs. Gruwell is
an inexperienced teacher. Mrs. Gruwell faced with a big challenged when her freshmen
students showed her a high level of disrespect. Mrs. Gruwell and her students are hard
to understand with each other. While Mrs. Gruwell taught she developed different
strategies to boost them in taking part in class activities. The students in class was so
racial and only communicated with students of the same ethnic group. Mrs. Gruwell
showed great compassion and determination because the students have no interest in
school or in her but she still tried her best, she tried different methods or techniques to
convince her students.
According to the this “Knowledge is not generated within an individual but
rather is constructed through reaction with people and other objects around, such as
books.”. Mrs. Gruwell’s technique to help the students love reading and writing was
providing journals for them. In this techinique, it is effective as all students shared their
thoughts, reflections and feelings through writing. In this movie shown me that in order
to become an effective teacher I have to explore some techniques or methods that can
clutch the students to participate in group activities and to show their interest in school.
Students can’t be neglected because at the end of the day the result of it is having no
ambition and low self-esteem. In this movie I realized that being a teacher is not easy. I
realized that our teachers is also finding a way or a method for us to change our bad
attitude. Our teachers are tired too, they are tired of teaching us some good things but
still they don’t give up on us. For me, when I’m a teacher I will never give up to the
things I think it’s hard for me to do.
This movie is like we are having some problems, problems came we don’t
know it’s a blessing or a lesson but at the end we realize that we helped people. Like
Mrs. Gruwell I think it’s a blessing to her to help students to changed. God gave her a
challenged to help the students. Like I’m having a problem or an experience in life, I
write it in the paper as my diary because when we’re writing we can write all our
problems. Mrs. Gruwell don’t give up on her freshmen students so that they finally
graduated, like us when we have a challenges in life don’t give up, at the end problem
was already solved. All the sacrifices we have done are all worth it.

My Reaction to Freedom Writers Movie

We watched a movie about students who suffer challenges every day and
segregate themselves from everybody different. It shows how a new teacher is given
the task to teach these students in English. At first the students don't get along, after
time and getting to know each other thanks to the teacher, they put aside their
differences and realize that their peers have also been through things that they have.
This movie was a really interesting one especially because of all the effort the teacher
puts into his students. The school they are attending used to be one of the best in the
county, but when it got integrated the school went from an A to a D school. The
teachers there had really negative attitudes. With all support of the teacher the students
managed to turn there life around and choose the right path for them.
The movie “freedome writers” was a great film to watch and an inspirational
film as well. Being able to see the impact that a teacher had upon these students is
something that I found amazing. This made me realize that one person can make a
difference. Seeing how this teacher slowly changed each of her students attitudes
toward life and helped them become a better person is simply amazing.

The Freedom Writers Response was a good exercise to have after the
movie, it helped me think through what happened and how it only took one person to
change an entire classroom, because it really was her determination and the fact even
when she was told that she wouldn't be able to change the students way of life, she
tried, and succeeded as well. To not getting support from even the principle. She also
couldn’t even get her students good books that they were supposed to read. The school
system saw her class as a class of students who were below their level and who
wouldn’t amount to anything, so the school didn’t find it important to give the students
new books. But Erin busted her butt got about three extra jobs so she could afford the
books that her students deserved.
This film was such a touching movie as to what some people will do for others. Even the
rough students in the end turned around and started helping others. The movie told us
that anything is possible; never give up on yourself, and to always follow your dreams,
because dreams know no race, color, or creed.
