Globalization is the topic that is quite concerned by the people all around the world, both in positive
and negative perspective. However, globalization is inevitable. Because limiting our capacity or
reach in only our region or area where we live, will not make us develop. And almost everyone
who is not satisfied with something that they are looking for in their country, will most likely find
other area or origin where they can fulfill what they want. This is where the concept of
globalization takes place. For example, many students are not satisfied with the education that they
get from their country and they want knowledge that are more open and wider, they want to go
overseas but they find it difficult. Therefore they access these knowledge that they want to find
out easily on the internet or e-books. Or, many companies want their business to be widely known
so that they will receive more profit and their country will gain dignity. But in this paper, I’m
going to emphasize the social and economic impact of globalization.

Globalization can be both good or bad, it’s considered two-sided sword, it can benefit and harm
us at the same time. The outcome depends on how we make a use out of it and how we control it.
The result can differ by what kind of country and in what kind of aspects too.

Most people will think about culture, technology and politic when they hear the word
“Globalization”, but it is way beyond that. In fact, globalization affect economic almost the
strongest and so is social. First off is the economic. As we all know, besides the sales of a country
in their own region, export and import is very important in maintaining and increasing a country’s
finance. International trade and services has become increasingly important. It may increase a
country income. It also has given new opportunities in expanding their business. However, this
international trading is not always a win-win game. In the international market, there is the
“producer country” that targets the “consumer country”, and lately the producer has becoming
more productive whereas the consumer has becoming more consumptive. Globalization in
economic can bring both positive and negative impact.

Internationally, trading has been highly beneficial and dominated by the western countries. They
keep opening new franchise in eastern countries easily whereas the eastern country find it hard to
open frnachise or expand their business in the western.. Therefore making most of the developed
country getting richer and the developing country getting poorer. Seemingly, the western are more
creative and they always plan ahead in the economic world. However, lot of eastern countries have
come to a realization and make the economic game stronger. In fact, easterns have more diverse
culture, food, and ideas, making them have more chance in taking most profit in global business.
And in the long run, easterns might as well take over and dominate the global economic.

Globalization can help developing country to catch up with other country in increasing economy
growth and deal with the poverty problems within the country. With globalization, developing
countries get help from the World Bank for a huge improvemen and radical change through loans,
therefore allowing them to cope up with the trading. Developed countries can also put investment
in the developing country, giving job opportunities for poor people. For instance, fast growth in
India and China have decreased the poverty rates in the world. One of the most important impact
from globalization is goods and labor are much easier and daster because free-trade between
countries increased, and it lower the chances of war between countries. In addition to that,
communication between individuals and firms around the world helps to increase free-trade that
stimulate economic growth. Although globalization has created advantages and trading in
developing countries, we have to take note of disadvantages the globalization caused for the poor.

One of the reason why globalization increased inequality between the rich and the poor, is because
the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer. A lot of country has benefited from globalization
but those country are the ones who are left behind. Because usually it has benefited so much with
other country and become dependant of them, therefore it can be easy for firms from overseas to
dominate the economy in the developing countries. Foreign companies become a threat for the
domestic companies because it will tighten the competition in their own country, usually firms
from overseas or firms who are able to expand their branches in other countries is very competitive,
making it hard for domestic companies to compete if they are not prepared for that. On the other
side, developed countries control their firms and industries in developing countries to take
advantage of low wage/low cost for labor and also causes pollution in countries where pollution
regulation is bad, which is again are usually developing countries. Also opening firms of developed
countries in developing countries can result in backlash for the domestik citizens, it can increase
rate of unemployement because overseas firms usually only employ those with higher skills,
resulting in low job opportunities for the poor.

In terms of the social impact, both the negative and positive impact are equally strong. From the
positive side, globalization has helped many in being open-minded and replacing the ancient
culture that can actually be harmful for the society. For example, women are seen to be only a sex
satisfaction figure in india, or women should be prostitute in ancient Greek culture. However, this
idea of women also have big chance in living their life equally with men in the western has been
spreaded all around the world and tackle down those harmful ancient ideas

Meanwhile the negative side is also concerning all around the world. For me personally what can
destroy a country is not by weapon, but rather by the mind of its citizen. Each country has its own
idealism and belief. And they all are different for each country. Assimilation can be beneficial at
some ways. But lately, there are few idea that came across another country to other region that is
actually not on line with the belief in there. Specifically speaking, how Indonesia and India’s
culture are being influenced with the western’s. Or generally some of the asean countries. The
western are known to believe with liberialism, where anyone can do anything that they want
without. But that’s not how idealism in Indonesia and India works. The idea of doing anything
without norms is okay for the western. But doing that in Indonesia can be harmful for that person
itself and the society because there are already standardized norms that should be followed by
everyone in that specific society. For example, teenage pregnancy or underage sex have been
widely happening in western and it is considered as their own decision and it is their freedom to
choose to do that. While in Indonesia it is prohibited and the people who violate that will get social
punishment. However, the young generations of Indonesia have increasingly agree and strongly
influenced with the liberialism and wanting that idea to be applied in Indonesia. If this happens in
the long run, it will create chaos in the society.
Either way, globalization is inevitable. We can freely take benefit from the positive side. And it is
our obligation to take control and filter carefully the influence from the globalization in order to
avoid any unwanted impact from happening.
