ARIZONA FALL LEAGUE: The Arizona Fall League, owned and operated by Major League Baseball, is entering its 28th season. The
2019 season that begins Wednesday, September 18. Team staffs reflect at least one representative from each MLB Club and are divided
accordingly to the organization’s respective AFL team assignment. The Fall League’s six venues remain Camelback Ranch-Glendale
(Glendale Desert Dogs), Peoria Sports Complex (Peoria Javelinas), Salt River Fields (Salt River Rafters), Scottsdale Stadium (Scottsdale
Scorpions), Sloan Park (Mesa Solar Sox) and Surprise Stadium (Surprise Saguaros). The Major League affiliations for each AFL team
are as follows: Glendale Desert Dogs-Camelback Ranch (Chicago-AL, Cincinnati, Los Angeles-NL, Milwaukee & St. Louis); Peoria
Javelinas-Peoria Sports Complex (Boston, Houston, Pittsburgh, San Diego & Seattle); Mesa Solar Sox-Cubs Park (Chicago-NL,
Cleveland, Detroit, Los Angleles-AL & Oakland); Salt River Rafters-Salt River Fields (Arizona, Colorado, Miami, Minnesota & Tampa Bay)
and Scottsdale Scorpions-Scottsdale Stadium (Atlanta, New York-NL, Philadelphia, San Francisco & Toronto) and Surprise Saguaros-
Surprise Stadium (Baltimore, Kanasas City, New York-AL, Texas & Washington). AFL team is comprised of 5 major league organizations

DRAFT RECAP: the Mariners selected 41 players in the 2019 Major League Baseball’s First-Year Player Draft, highlighted by their first
pick, right-handed starter George Kirby, who was the 20th overall selection in the draft. The Mariners selected 23 pitchers, including 3
left-handers, 4 catchers, 9 infielders (2 2B, 4 SS, 3 3B), and 5 outfielders. Seattle selected 33 college players and 8 high school players.
The Mariners drafted 4 catchers, 9 infielders (2 2B, 4 SS, 3 3B), and 5 outfielders. Infielder Austin Shenton from the Florida International
University was the Mariners first position player selected in the 5th round (156th overall). Of the 18 position players selected, 12 are right-
handed hitters, 5 are left-handed hitters and 1 switch hitter. Seattle selected 23 pitchers in the draft; 20 right-handed pitchers and 3 left-
handed pitchers. Right-handed pitcher Michael Limoncelli (6th round/186th overall) from Horseheads (NY) High School was the first high
school pitcher selected by the Mariners, while right-handed pitcher George Kirby (1st round/20th overall) from Elon University was the
first college pitcher drafted by Seattle. In all, 17 of the 23 pitchers selected by Seattle were college pitchers. The Mariners selected 33
college players in the draft, including 12 of the Mariners first 14 picks. At 17-year-old, Dutch Landis (17th round) out of Bishop Gorman
High School in Henderson, NV, was the youngest player the Mariners selected. In all Seattle selected players with hometowns from 22
states: Alabama, Arizona, California (5), Colorado, Florida (3), Georgia (2), Illinois, Indiana (2), Kansas, Louisiana, Minnesota, Mississippi,
Nevada, New Jersey, New York (2), North Carolina (3), Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina (2), Texas (5) and Washington
(3); 2 countries: United States, Canada (1).
WELCOME TO SEATTLE: The Seattle Mariners selected right-handed pitcher George Kirby out of Elon University with their first
selection (20th overall) in the 2019 First-Year Player Draft. Kirby, 21, recently completed his junior season at Elon University, going 8-2
with a 2.75 ERA (27 ER, 88.1 IP) in 14 starts. The 6-foot-4, 205-pound starter, limited opponents to a .221 (73x331) average while issuing
only 6 walks and striking out 107 in 88.1 innings. Kirby was named Colonial Athletic Association 2019 Pitcher of the Year, after leading
all Division I pitchers with a 17.83 strikeout-to-walk ratio and fewest walks per 9.0 innings (.611). He also ranked among Division I leaders
in WHIP (11th, 0.89) and complete games (T13th, 3). Kirby was a 3-time Colonial Athletic Association Pitcher of the Week this season
(February 19, February 26 & March 12), a 2019 Baseball America Second Team Preseason All-American and a 2019 Perfect Game
Second Team Preseason All-American. MLB.com and Baseball America rated Kirby as having the “Best Control” among all eligible
pitchers in the draft. Kirby is the first player from Elon University to be selected in the first round of the MLB Draft. In three seasons at
Elon, he went 19-8 with a 3.34 (ERA (89 ER, 240.0 IP) in 45 games, 34 starts. After his sophomore season, he was named to the 2018
Second-Team All-CAA and Second-Team NCCSIA All-State. His 10 wins in 2018 were tied for the 3rd-most in program history. He was
named to the CAA All-Rookie Team following his freshman season in 2017. In 2017, Kirby was part of the first no-hitter in CAA Tournament
history as he combined with Jordan Barrett to no-hit College of Charleston. Prior to his time at Elon University, he was a three-time all-
metro, all-state, all-section, all-league player at Rye High School in Rye, New York. He was ranked as the No. 2 right-handed pitcher in
the state of New York by Perfect Game in 2016. He helped his team to a pair of league titles, a sectional championship and state finals
appearance. Kirby was originally selected by the New York Mets in the 32nd round of the 2016 MLB First-Year Player Draft, but opted to
play with Elon instead.

THE FUTURE IS NOW: Mariners minor leaguers RHP Justin Dunn, OF Jared Kelenic and 1B Evan White represented the American League
in the 21st annual SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game on Sunday, July 7th at Progressive Field in Cleveland. Seattle was 1 of 5 teams with 3 players
on the roster (also: DET, MIA, SD, TB). Also marked the 3rd time in the 21-year history of the Futures Game that Seattle's had 3 players named
to rosters, joining 2013 (Taijuan Walker, Ji-Man Choi & Brad Miller) and 2004 (Félix Hernández, Shin-Soo Choo & Jeremy Reed). The Mariners
have had 42 selections (including Dunn, Kelenic & White) to the Futures Game since its first began in 1999. Seven players on the current 25-
man roster (+DL) have played in the Futures Game in the past: J.P. Crawford (2014 & 2015), Dee Gordon (2010), Marco Gonzales (2014),
