Report on 5s system and safety

5s (sort – set – shine – standardize – sustain)

5s system is made to make the work more easily with time efficient
and all the workers are compelled to it.

Sort: sort is used to categorize each item and put them together and keep you use with
daily basis ,store the items you will need and throw the items you don’t use this stage
will give you extra space you didn’t know about that you can use it in expanding your
work or storage items.

Set: set each item in place to know where it is when you need to use it you can use
labels and shadow boards to make it easy for you and the most important thing in set
stage is to put each item in the right place of use to make it more easier for worker or
operator to find the tool need to use on a specific machine or in specific operation in
near place to save time of getting this tool.

Shine: clean and resort all the items you used in doing your job by going through
checking list it will consume time at end of the day but this stage will conserve a lot of
time in general and its essential to keep the system working.

Standardize: it is simply to standardize each process you have (ex: knowing the exact
time taken to make a specific operation and if there is waste time you can do two
procedures at the same time) then after knowing the standard you can measure your
output compared to this stander ,any deviation tells you there is a problem and
improving this stander will increase the productivity.

Sustain: is to keep the system going by training the new comers to the system and
follow up the old employees and do a meetings to get ideas of the employees about
improving and adjusting the system to fit the industry or the field of work.
Safety in factories : safety in factories has began from beginning of making factories to
save workers lives and protect them from injuries.

Safety is Divided into two sections :-

1- Safety applied the the factory it self like

I. Stop switch (it is used when something goes wrong in the
production line or to stop a machine instantly if there is a
danger on the operator).
II. Guards for moving parts (these guards designed
that it doesn’t open until the machine stop
operating).

2- Safety applied to the operator like

I. Safety goggles (to protect the eyes).
II. Respirators (to protect lungs against fumes or dust particles ).
III. Safety shoes (it is designed to protect against impacts and slipping).
IV. Hard Hats.
V. Gloves .

All the new factories has safety lines and markings on the floor to guide where the
machine walk and where the men walk and the sectors in the factory that is dangers to
get near to.
