 It will block any traffic it recognize as a potential
threat.

or leaves the network.
 VPN (Virtual private network) – is a virtual
tunnel created between two endpoints over
one or more physical networks.
Personal firewalls – is a firewall included in the
windows OS .
 Eg. Windows defender firewall
 Remember windows defender firewall
sometimes turnoff when you install new third
party firewall.
Security Software
 Spam filter – is software designed to combat
spam by examining incoming email messages
and filtering out those that have characteristics
of spam.
 Anti- Virus software – can examine the
contents of a storage device or RAM looking for
hidden viruses and files that may act as host for
virus.

 Pop up blockers – a program that work against
pop up advertisement.
 All major web browser now have built
in pop-up blockers.
 Note : the most important browser
setting is often a few layers down in the
settings dialog.
 Privacy protection and cookies - it is
recommended that you allow first-party cookies
for the convenience and block third party
cookies .
 Content filter – enable protection from
inappropriate or distasteful content.

 User right – define a system wide action that a
user or group may perform such as logging on.

Standard vs Administrator Account
 Standard user account – for ordinary account
can change her password and other personal
settings but cannot change computer settings
 Administrative account – can perform system
wide task that affect the overall operating
system and other users.
