HYPOTHESIS

If a tomato plant with organic fertilizer has an additive of 50 mL banana peelings extract and 50
g. of peanut shells compared with a tomato plant with organic fertilizer alone, then the tomato plant
with an additive of 50 mL banana peelings extract and 50 g. of peanut shells is more efficient on the
growth of the plant because as revealed by Kaiser and Rosen (2018), potassium which is found in banana
is associated with the flow of water, nutrients, and carbohydrates in plant tissue that regulates the
opening of the stomata affecting the protein, starch, and exchange of water vapour. Not only potassium
is an essential element in growing plants, but also nitrogen which can be found in peanuts, that can
increase the porosity of the plant making it absorb more essential elements in the soil (Torkashvand,
2015).

RESEARCH STATEMENT:

What are the effects of an improved organic fertilizer with additives such as banana peels and
peanut shells?

VARIABLES:

IV: BanaNut Fertilizer and Organic Fertilzer

DV: Growth and Height of tomato plants

CV: Same environment, Same day (planting, watering, and applying fertilizer)

MATERIAL LIST:

1. 2 kg. Banana peelings

2. 2 kg. Valencia peanut shells
3. Measuring cups
4. 4 pieces of ¼ cheese cloth
5. 1 Knife
6. 2 Bowls
7. 1 Chopping Board
8. Mortar and Pestle/ Juicer
9. 1 Blender
10. 1 Bottle Spray/ Bottle
11. 2 Tomato plants
12. 2 Plastic Pots

CREATION PRECEDURE:

1. Prepare all the materials and equipment needed.

2. For the extraction of 2 kg. banana peelings, cut the banana peelings first unto smaller pieces.
3. Put the 2 kg. banana peelings inside the blender and blend it for easier extraction.
4. After blending, the blended 2 kg. banana peelings will be strained using a ¼ cheesecloth.
5. The 50 mL extracted juice of banana peelings will be contained in a bowl.
6. For the powdering of 2 kg. peanut shells, the shells will be placed first in a mortar to be
pulverized with the use of pestle.
7. Mix the 50 mL extract of banana peelings and 50 g. pulverized peanut shells.
8. Combine the mixture of 50 mL extract of banana peelings and 50 g. pulverized peanut shells
with the organic fertilizer.
9. The organic fertilizer with additives of banana peeling extract and pulverized peanut shells is
now ready to be used.

TESTING PROCEDURE:

1. The BanaNut fertilizer will be applied on the lateral sides of one plastic pot, while the other
plastic pot will be applied with the organic fertilizer itself.
2. Since the bought tomato plants have their own soil, one tomato plant will be placed in the pot
with BanaNut fertilizer and will be applied again with BanaNut fertilizer, while the other tomato
plant will be placed in the pot with the organic fertilizer itself, and applies again with the ogrnaic
fertilizer. The plant with Bananut fertilizer is the experimental group while the plant eith
organic fertilizer will be the control group.
3. The two tomato plants will be plowed to blend the soil with their respective fertilizers.
4. Both tomato plants will be placed in an area where it can receive the same environment (water
and sunlight).
5. The plants will receive their respective fertilizers every once a week.
6. The landscape of the plants will receive fertilizers once a month.
7. At 6:00 in the morning, both plants will be watered.
8. Both plants will be observed every day.
9. The results gathered from both of the plants will be analyzed and compared.
