TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION
The StoreServ 8000 family uses a Mesh-Active architecture and features the HPE 3PAR Gen5
Thin Express ASIC. The 8000 series features the same hardware acceleration as those found in
the eight-node 20000 line. It shares the same operating system and software as the other
StoreServ products. While the 7000 series uses 8Gb FC and 6Gb SAS connectivity, the 8000
series uses 16Gb FC and 12Gb SAS connectivity. The 8000 arrays use Intel Ivy Bridge
processors, replacing the older Sandy Bridge processors in the 7000 series.
The StoreServ 8400 is a direct replacement for the HPE 3PAR StoreServ 7400 storage. It is
offered as a 2-node or 4-node base configuration and provides all-flash performance in a hybrid
solution. The 2-node 2U field integrated base enclosure includes two controller nodes, 64 GB
cache, four 16Gbps FC ports, two adapter slots, and 24 SFF drive bays. The 4-node 4U field
integrated base enclosure includes four controller nodes, 128 GB cache, eight 16Gbps FC ports,
four adapter slots, and 48 SFF drive bays.
Capacity can be further increased with the addition of external drive enclosures. The HPE 3PAR
StoreServ 8400 supports up to 22 added drive enclosures. Each Drive Enclosure holds up to 24
drives in 2U for small form factor (2.5”) drives and 4U for large form factor (3.5”) drives.
Recovery Manager Central (RMC) allows application consistent snapshots from a 3PAR to be
transferred directly to a StoreOnce appliance.
The HPE 3PAR File Persona Software Suite is a licensed feature of the 3PAR OS that enables
file protocols and core file data services on a converged 3PAR StoreServ system. This software
suite is licensed based on aggregate usable file capacity in increments of 1TB software LTU.
HPE StoreEver Archive Manager software lowers the cost of retaining 3PAR file data to be
archived on tape. The HPE StoreFront Remote SaaS Portal provides tools and integrated data
collection from the 3PAR arrays delivering analytics and insights in one dashboard.

ANNOUNCEMENT HISTORY
* February 2017 - Announced 3PAR OS 3.3.1. Enhancements include all-inclusive software
licensing, a new Adaptive Data Reduction (ADR) feature, Compression availability on flash
disks, support for VVOL replication, Peer Persistence 3 Data Centres (3DC) feature, Replication
to StoreVirtual VSA (Peer Copy) and an updated StoreServ Management Console (SSMC)
* November - Introduced new 15.36TB FIPS encrypted SSDs
* June 2016 - Introduced new 7.68TB SSDs and 8TB FIPS encrypted nearline drives. New
security features in the File Persona software include Data Lock for enterprise data governance,
NTFS dedicated security mode which allows cross sharing of files between Windows and Linux
users. 3PAR File Persona, SAP HANA and Oracle are added to the list of supported
applications in the release of RMC 3. Also introduced HPE Smart SAN, an application that
enables 3PAR to automate configurations for settings and policies across the SAN
* November 2015 - Hewlett-Packard separated into two distinct public companies. Hewlett
Packard Enterprise (HPE) will concentrate its efforts in the server, storage, networking,
integrated systems, services and software markets, whilst HP Inc. will focus on personal
systems and printing markets. Changes have been made within the current HP product profiles
to reflect this change
* November 2015 - Support for 3D NAND SSD drives, new 3PAR Falsh Acceleration for Oracle
and extension of 3PAR Online Import software to IBM XIV storage announced
