The document discusses factors that affect the concentration of solutions, including saturation levels (unsaturated, saturated, supersaturated), solvent-solute interactions, temperature, and pressure. Specifically, it notes that increasing temperature or decreasing pressure can increase how much solute dissolves in a solvent, while the type of solute and solvent determine solubility. Particle size, temperature, stirring, existing concentration, and other dissolved solutes can also impact the rate of dissolution.

Saturation 1. Unsaturated – more solute can be dissolved. 2. Saturated – maximum amount of solute has been dissolved. 3. Unsaturated – more than maximum amount of solute has been dissolved (can only occur through heating). Changing Conditions 1. Solvent – Solute Interactions – some substances not able to dissolve in others. 2. Pressure Effects – only effects gases. Increasing pressure increases how much solute can dissolve. 3. Temperature – Increase temperature increase how much solid/liquid dissolves.
2. How are these factors affect the concentration of solution?
Some of the factors that may affect the rate at which a solid will dissolve in a liquid are the particle size of the solid, the temperature of the solvent, the amount of stirring or agitation of the mixture, how much solute is already dissolved in the solvent, and the presence of other dissolved solutes. The solubility of a solute is: the maximum amount of solute that can dissolve in a certain amount of solvent or solution at a certain temperature. MAIN FACTORS THAT AFFECT SOLUBILITY: Nature of the solute and solvent – The amount of solute that dissolves depends on what type of solute it is.
