B. Presentation

TEACHER’S ACTIVITY STUDENTS’ ACTIVITY

Based on the answer of the student, for

example:

1. Age
12, 13, 13, 13, 13, 13, 13, 13, 14
Given your ages we will add them then divide
it by 9 to find the mean age.
12+13+13+13+13+13+13+13+14 is equal to Ma’am 117
what?
117 divided by 9 13

13 is the mean age

Now, what can we say about the mean? It is the total age divided by the
number of age.
Very good! 3 claps
In statistics, the mean is the most important
and most useful among the three measures of
Central Tendency. It is also known as the
average. It is the sum of all data values
divided by the number of
data. It is symbolized as x.
Again class, what are the two step to find the First we will add all the data, then
mean? second we will divide it by the
number of data.
Example:
Find the mean of the following:
1. 15, 25, 23, 17, 17, 23 1. 15+25+23+17+17+23= 120
120 / 6 = 20
2. 75, 80, 82, 90, 88, 83, 85, 92
2. 75+80+82+90+88+83+85+92= 675
675 / 8 = 84. 38
Excellent! 3 claps
Yes Ma’am
Do you understand class?
2. Height
Members 1-9
Ana, James, Patrick, Prince, Lorenz, Diane,
Rose, Ken, Ian
On your arrangement Lorenz is the median.
What is median?
It is the middle.
Brilliant! 3 claps.
Median is the value of the middle data after
arranging the data in ascending or descending
order.
Example:
1. Andrea’s scores in 9 quizzes during the
quarter are 8, 7, 6, 10, 9, 5, 9, 10, and 7. What
shall we do to find the median? We will arrange the data in
ascending order. 5, 6, 7, 7, 8, 9, 9, 10,
Fabulous! 3 claps. 10 then the middle value 8 is the
median.

2. Find the median of the day of your

birthdate including the day of my birthdate
23.
1, 8, 9, 11, 16, 19, 22, 23, 26, 30. What is/are
the middle value? 16 and 19

Since the number of data is even, to find the

median we will add the two middle value then
divide it by two.
16 + 19 = 35
35 / 2 = 17.5

3. Ages of instructors in Math Department 37,

44, 50, 60, 44, 35, 37, 50, 22, 24, 30, 25, 26, 22, 24, 25, 26, 30, 33, 35, 35, 37, 37,
35, 43, 33. Find the median. 43, 44, 44, 50, 50, 60.

Wonderful! 3 claps. 35 + 37 = 72 ; 72 / 2 = 36
Is it clear class?
Yes Ma’am

4. Shoe size
A shoe store was able to sell 9 pairs of black
shoes in one day. Which shoe size is saleable?
How many of this size were sold for the day?
6, 5, 4, 6, 6, 5, 6, 7, 7 Size 6
4 pairs of black shoes
Size 6 is the mode. What do we call mode?
It is the more value in the data.

Good idea! 3 claps.

Mode is the value which appears most often
in the set of data.
Example:
1. Using the first Letter of your name. Find the
mode.
A, C, J, L, L M, P, P, T
2. Find the mode in the given set of score 7, L and P
10, 8, 5, 9, 6, and 4.
No mode

Do you understand the three measures of

central tendency class? What are they? Yes Ma’am

Excellent! 3 claps. Mean, Median and Mode
