 PRESENTATION

DAY 1
Discussion:
 Introduce the writer of the essay, Dr. Jose Dalisay Jr. by providing a brief information
about him.
 Ask the students to read the essay with the title, “Lterature in the Time of Tokhang”
made by Dr. Jose Dalisay Jr. in their LPW book pages 82 – 85.

 After reading, ask the class relevant questions:

1. Based on the article, what does the term “tokhang” mean in English?

2. What part of the essay strikes you the most? Why?

3. Does the writer appeal to your intellect, imagination, emotion? All three?

4. Does the essay involve a moment of insight, reflection, or self-realization to you as a

reader?

5. What do you think can a writer do in this unfortunate time?

6. Was the essay all about disaster? If not, what do you think is it about?

7. In what way can we use literature as a tool or a weapon to be able to cease extra-
judicial killings in this country? Expound your answer.

8. What did you learn from the essay?

Activity:
 Engage the students to an activity, Cartooning, wherein they are going to make an
editorial cartoon about extra judicial killing also known as “tokhang”.
 Tell them that the activity will be done by pair.
 Call five pairs afterwards to explain their work.

1. An EDITORIAL CARTOON is an illustration expressing opinion and interpretation. It is

also called a “wordless editorial”. The main purpose is not to amuse you but to
persuade you. A good editorial/political cartoon makes you think about current events,
but it also tries to sway your opinion toward the cartoonist's point of view.

2. Have the students accomplish the activity in LPW book on p.85.
