Algebra 2 pgitchos@methow.org
(6th Block)
Welcome to Algebra 2. In this class you will extend the skills you acquired in Algebra and Geometry to
explore more rich, complex mathematical structures and models. Please commit to working hard in this
class. Getting stuck is a natural part of the learning process. Persevere, and seek help when necessary.
I look forward to helping you succeed in mathematics this year.

Our main goals in Algebra 2 are to:

• Use and understand the real and complex number systems
• Recognize and describe functions, their inverses, compositions and transformations
• Analyze and model with polynomial, exponential and logarithmic and other functions
• Analyze and model with trigonometric functions; connect right triangle trigonometry to
measurements on the unit circle
• Cultivate mathematical practices and habits of mind for success.

The textbook for the course is Key Curriculum's Discovering Advanced Algebra.

Please access the class website, available as a link from Skyward or methow.org (under LBHS staff).
Select the tab for Algebra 2. Under “Class Log” you will find updates on current classwork and
homework assignments. Both students and parents should follow the blog to stay informed.

Grading policies: Your grade will be based on summative assessments (tests and projects). Each
summative assessment will be composed of individual learning targets. In some cases you may be
allowed to reassess a learning target from a past test to demonstrate new learning, provided that you
can show appropriate evidence of the work you have done since the first assessment. It is your
responsibility to prepare for and request reassessments.

Summative grades will be divided into three categories receiving equal weight:
Conceptual Understanding
Procedural Fluency
Practical Application

Student personal telecommunications devices may be turned on and operated before/after the regular
school day and during lunch/passing periods. School staff may also authorize the student to use a
personal telecommunications device for instructional purposes or to facilitate parent/guardian
communications. Other than the times and circumstances described above, personal
telecommunications devices should be stored by the student in the student’s personal belongings or in
the designated area in each classroom to limit distraction, balance screen time, support healthy and
safe school culture and learning environments, and encourage students to practice face-to-face,
interpersonal communication skills. Students using these products during instructional time without
permission will forfeit the equipment under the following guidelines:

1st time: Student can pick the phone up from the office at the end of the school day.
2nd time: Parent/guardian can pick the phone up from the office at the end of the school day.
3rd time: Parent meeting with school administrator.

If parents need to reach their students or relay a message during class times, please call the LBHS
front office at 509-996-2215.

Please read and discuss this syllabus with your parent/guardian, then sign and return this section:
