Qualities of a Leader
After reading some of Maxwell’s book with relation what are the qualities to be a leader,
where being a leader means having a good character, charisma, having commitments, a good sense
of communication, competence, have courage, discernment, and focus. Whereas, it is elaborated
that theses qualities should what a leader possess.
First, character by definition characters are the morals that a leader should possess these
morals will give leaders foundations of what kind of decisions they should have, a making of what
makes a leader good in leading. I believed that a leader with great minds and clear heart will have
followers of great minds and clear heart. Leaders make their followers, so in order to improve this
quality a leader should be able to think carefully of his or her decisions. Charisma, it is an aura of
a leader, to be leader doesn’t mean that you should be intimidating, it meant that a leader show
possess a sense of power and respect but in a manner that is friendly. It also connotes on
impressions on a person. In order to improve this qualities, first being mindful of others is the main
key.
Commitment, is being devoted and well committed in everything that a leader does. A good
leader will stay committed that his/ her views and act. One of the best determiner that a leader is
committed in everything that he/she do is when a leader was able to have set of accomplishments.
In order to improve this quality having a sense of responsibility is the key and being able to know
the purpose of every goal. Knowing that worth in and how will it benefit others, being their leader
is the key. Communication, to be a good leader, one must be able to communicate with others well.
Having a good sense of communication will give close ties between the relationship of a follower
between a follower and a leader in his followers. In order to improve this quality, practicing a good
sense of communication with others such as being clear with what you wanted to portray to avoid
misunderstandings.
Courage, being able to face fears. To be leader, one must be able to bravely face their
mistakes and learn from them. That’s one practice of courage. Discernment, the ability to judge
well. It is the quality of a leader being able to decide for the good of all. To be able to improve
this quality, a critical thinking of things must occur. A wisdom of which a leader think what is
right and what is wrong without defying what is considered moral. Lastly, focus, knowing what is
and what should be. Having one goal and being able to look at it. Also, being focus means having
one straight eye on the goal a leader wanted to have for his/her followers. Strengthening what
should be strengthen and improving what should be improved.
In in my opinion, these qualities are the qualities that leaders should have. But, I want to
give an additional to what Maxwell’s book says. As the saying goes, a great leader is a great
follower. What does this mean? A leader is a leader, but a follower is a much greater leader. They
have perspectives that will be able to understand what it is to be a follower that will apply to being
a leader.
