O Lord of All

By St. Gregory Nazianzen (329-389), Bishop and Doctor of the Church. This
prayer is taken from the Office of the Readings for Friday of the 31st week of
Ordinary time.

O OMNIUM Domine et effector O LORD and Creator of all, and


ac praecipue huius figmenti! especially of this Thy creature!

O Deus tuorum hominum et Pater O God and Father and Ruler of Thy
ac gubernator! people!

O vitae et mortis arbiter! O Arbiter of life and death!

O nostrarum animarum custos et O Guardian and Benefactor of our


benefactor! souls!

O QUI omnia facis, et tempestive, O THOU who makest all, and in


atque, ut ipse pro sapientiae tuae et due season transformest all by the
administrationis altitudine nosti, power of Thy Word according to
artifice Verbo transmutas, nunc Thy wisdom and deep designs,
quidem Caesarium, discessus nostri receive now, I beg Thee, those who
primitias, quaeso, suscipe. have gone before us.

NOS vero quoque opportuno RECEIVE us too at the opportune


tempore suscipe, tamdiu in carne time, until Thou hast restrained us
vitam nostram moderatus, quamdiu in our fleshly life for as long as it
conducibile fuerit; et quidem will have been to our advantage.
suscipe ob metum tuum paratos et Indeed receive us prepared by fear
non turbatos, neque in extremo die of Thee and not troubled, nor
terga vertentes atque invito animo, turning back on that day of death,
quemadmodum solent qui mundo et nor unwilling like those who are
carni addicti sunt, hinc abstractos et accustomed to the world and
avulsos, sed prompte et alacriter ad addicted to the flesh. Instead, may
beatam illam et longaevam vitam we set out eagerly for that
proficiscentes, quae est in Christo everlasting and blessed life which is
Iesu Domino nostro, cui gloria in in Christ Jesus our Lord. To Him be
saecula saeculorum. Amen. glory for ever and ever. Amen
