Introduction: This solution has already been proven in proof of concept and
can be engineered and implemented for any size of solar power plant .The
undersigned offers on consultancy basis to do the entire project for any one of
the units of your facility.
Solar Power Plants capacity utilization is limited by the avalaibility of solar
insolation ie sunlight incident on the solar panels
photovoltaic cells. The obvious reasons for non incidence of sunlight are:
Nightime absence of sunlight
Cloudy weather
Monsoons and dust storms
If this restriction is overcome then capcity utilzation significiantly increases to rival
that of fuel fired power plants and makes
solar power a very preferred option.
B. Problem Solution
Princilple upon which the solution is based:
The characteristics of sunlight incident on solar panels photovolatic arrays
required for power to be generated are:
SOLAR RADIATION
Sunlight comes in many colors, combining low-energy infrared photons (1.1 eV)
with high-energy ultraviolet photons
(3.5 eV) and all the visible-light photons between.
CONVERSION EFFICIENCIES
The typical output voltage of a PV cell is between 0.5 and 0.6 Volts and the energy
conversion efficiency ranges from
less than 10% to over 20%. An array of cells can therefore generate about 200
Watts of electrical power per square

2
Water & Solar Energy Proposal

metre when illuminated by solar radiation of 1000 Watts per square metre. The
corresponding current density will be
about 400 Amps/m2. Because of climatic conditions the intensity of the insolation
rarely reaches 1000 W/m2.The
corresponding output Wattages for these cells range from 20 milliWatts to about
4 Watts.
Solar PV systems are amongst the least efficient ways of generating electricity,
but this poor performance is not just
due to the low PV conversion efficiency of the cells which is improved year by
year by ongoing research and
development. It is mainly due to the lack of available sunshine
However it is established that any light of the same characteristics and intensity of sunlight
incident on a solar panel array of photovoltaic cells will result in power generation.
This gives rise to the concept of solar power plant utilizing light from a radiant source
generated by
combustion. The overall energy efficiency and economy being attained by in parallel using
the heat from
combustion to generate power via waste heat recovery system. To simplify the concept
.Conventionaly
whenever combustion takes place, for instance in a boiler furnace, the flame radiates light
which is radiant
energy and this is used to generate power by utilizing it to convert water to steam and power
a turbine. The
other components of heat energy from combustion that is the non radiative components are
recovered by heat
exchange surfaces by convective heat transfer.
This implies: Let the radiant component of furnace combustion be reflected on to solar panel
whenever
incident sunlight is not available. This will generate electricity vi the photovoltaic route. The
remaining
component of heat energy in the combusted flue gasses generates power via conventional
route.
The total power generated therefore is the combined sum of that from the electricity via
radiant impingement
plus that via conventional convective heat recovery.
Two questions arise:
Is it possible technically to generate electricity from photovoltaic array by any other light
source
being impinged upon it than sunlight?

14
Water & Solar Energy Proposal

Is it more economical to generate electricity by this combined/hybrid approach of using the

radiant
component of combustion via solar panels during non incidence of sunlight along with
continuous
generation via recovered convective heat (minus the radiant component which has been
reflected
onto the array) as compared to say purely utilizing the combustion heat both radiative and
convective to generate power via conventional route i.e. converting water to steam and then
powering
a turbine?
The answer to both questions is yes.
It will be shown by the innovator that:
a) Radiant light energy from combustion source can result in a photovoltaic array generating
electricity
b) That the economics of doing so by this hybrid route is superior to using the total heat from
combustion for conventional power generation. The analysis as per standard methodology
requires
.
C. Solution Summation
To any existing solar power plant incorporate a conventional combustion based power unit
with
radiant energy reflecting mirrors guided to reflect light from furnace flame onto solar array at
required angle of incidence. These are computer controlled to reflect radiation only when
incident
sunlight is absent. The combustion plant generates power independently by conventional
route. The
solar power plant will generate also continually as whenever sunlight is absent it will utilize
the
radiant energy from light from combustion furnace.
The detailed engineering of the furnace to be able to achieve this is submittable on request.
as is the
detailed economic analysis.
Proof of concept also can be demonstrated anytime with a months’ notice
During monsoons and at night the whole solar power system is enclosed within a covering
enclosing
canopy which enables the continued functioning via the radiation from combustion route
without
being affected by weather etc

to me

Partho

On Saturday morning I went and printed out all the materials that you had attached in your emails last
week, when I was at the show. WOW ~ AWESOME
It's like a snow ball. As it moves forward it continues to grow. More opportunities and better performance.

I am looking forward so much to being in DC in 2 weeks, and starting the snowball there.
