Sub.: Rules Governing M.D. (Ayurved) Degree Courses Examinations applicable for the
students admitted w.e.f. Academic Year 2017-2018 and onwards …

Ref.: Indian Medicine Central Council Notification dated 07th November 2016

It is notified to all concerned that Indian Medicine Central Council, vide its Gazette
Notification dated 07/11/2016, has prescribed syllabus for M.D. (Ayurved) Degree Courses, which
is made applicable by the University for all students admitted w.e.f. Academic Year 2017-2018.
DURATION OF THE COURSE AND ATTENDANCE:
(1) The student shall have to undergo study for a period of three years after the admission.
(2) The student shall have to attend minimum seventy-five percent of total lectures, practicals
and clinical tutorials or classes to become eligible to appear in the Universitpy Examinations.
(3) The student shall have to attend the hospital and other duties as may be assigned to him/her
during the course of study.
(4) The student of clinical subject shall have to do resident duties in their respective departments
and student of non-clinical subject shall have duties in their respective departments like
Pharmacy or Herbal Garden or Laboratory during the course of study.
(5) The student shall attend special lectures, demonstrations, seminars, study tours and such other
activities as may be arranged by the teaching departments.
(6) Web based centralized biometric attendance system shall be required for the attendance of
post-graduate students and manual attendance at department level in which student is
pursuing the post-graduate course. Periodic review shall be taken at Department level.
(7) While studying in main course (second year) and before appearing in final examination,
he/she shall :-
(a) Present at least 1 research paper concerned with enrolled specialty at National /
International / State seminars.
(b) Publish 1 research article concerned with enrolled specialty, in National /
International / State Journals.
(c) Attend 2 National/International/State level, seminar/workshops/ symposium related
to his/her enrolled specialty (attend during 03 Years Course).
(d) Deliver at least 10 Theory Lectures to Undergraduate students in presence of
Guide/H.O.D./Other Teacher of concerned department.
(e) Maintain a Log book as prescribed by University with due certification.

(A) CRITERIA OF MAXIMUM TIME-LIMIT FOR PASSING OF COURSE:

Any candidate admitted in M.D. Ayurved course must have to pass both examinations i.e.
M.D. Ayurved Pre & Final University Examinations within 06 years time-period from the admission
of that particular academic year. This shall be applicable for all students who have been admitted in
the Academic Year 2017-2018 and onwards.

(B) EXAMINATION AND ASSESSMENT:-

(1) The Post-graduate degree course shall have two examinations in the following manner,
namely:-
(a) The preliminary examination shall be conducted at the end of one academic year after
admission. Academic term will start as per Academic Calendar published by the
University & eligible candidates shall be allowed in Pre Examination on completion
of One Academic Year.
(b) The final examination shall be conducted on completion of three academic years after
the admission to postgraduate course for PG Ayurved / Unani courses.
(c) University Examinations shall ordinarily be held in the month of November /
December (Winter) and June / July (Summer) of every year;
(d) To be declared successful in the examination, student shall have to pass in all subjects
separately in Preliminary Examination;
(e) It is mandatory for the student to obtain minimum 40% marks in each Theory
paper and aggregate 50% marks in Clinical / Oral / Practical in Final Year
Examination to be declared as Pass. Any candidate, who has failed in Theory or
Pratical Examination, shall have to re-appear for Theory and Practical Examination of
subsequent examinations.
(f) If a student fails in Preliminary Examination, he shall have to pass in all subjects of
Preliminary Examination before appearing in Final examination;
(g) If any student fails in Theory or Practical of Final Examination, he is required to
appear in the subsequent Theory & Practical Examination, however, is not required to
submit a fresh dissertation;
(h) The subsequent examination for failed candidates shall be conducted at every six
months interval; and
(i) The post-graduate degree shall be conferred after the dissertation is accepted and the
student passes the final examination.
(2) The examination shall be aimed to test the clinical acumen, ability and working knowledge
of the student in the practical aspect of the speciality and his fitness to work independently as
a specialist.
(3) The clinical examination shall be conducted to judge the competence of the student in
Ayurveda and scientific literature of the speciality.
(4) The viva-voce part of the practical examination shall involve extensive discussion on any
aspect of subject or specialty.

(C) SCHEME OF EXAMINATION, PASSING HEAD AND STANDARD OF PASSING


FOR PRELIMINARY M.D./ M.S. EXAMINATION:

(1) THEORY EXAMINATION: Preliminary Examination shall be conducted at the end of one
academic year after admission and shall consist of (a) Two Theory Papers (b) Two
Practical/ Clinical & Oral examination as follows :

(D) SPECIAL NOTE:

(1) The assessment of Theory paper will be carried out as follows :


(a) Answer book for ‘Research Methodology & Medical Statistics shall be separate and
shall be assessed by separate examiners appointed for each section,
(b) Answer book for the subject-“Applied aspects of Fundamentals of Concerned
Subject” will be assessed by one examiner appointed from panel of examiner for that
subject.
(2) If a student passes in only one subject in all heads of passing prescribed for that subject, then
he/she shall be exempted for that subject for next subsequent examination.
(3) The maximum number of students per centre per day for Preliminary M.D./M.S. Practical
examinations shall not be more than Fifteen students.

(4) The student needs to attend the Research Methodology workshop organized by the MET Cell
of University during course of study, however, prior to submission of Final Year University
Examinations.
(5) No Grace marks shall be entitled to any Postgraduate course for Passing examination.

(E) SCHEME OF EXAMINATION, PASSING HEAD AND STANDARD OF PASSING


FOR FINAL/MAIN M.D./ M.S. EXAMINATION:

The final examination shall be conducted on the completion of three academic years
after the admission in the Postgraduate course & it shall consists of following heads:-
a) Dissertation.
b) Theory Examination.
c) Clinical, or Practical Examination and oral / Viva

(a) DISSERTATION :
Candidate must submit the Dissertation before appearing the Final Examination. The
rules regarding the same is mentioned in the Annexure ‘A’ attached.

(b) THEORY EXAMINATION:


1) There shall be Four Theory papers for each specialty at MD/ MS Examinations, of
100 marks each. Subject wise pattern of each question paper will be as follows :

2) Assessment of each theory paper will be carried out by two separate examiners.
This work will be carried out at C.A.P. Centre as per University rules.

(c) PRACTICAL FINAL MD/MS EXAMINATION:


1) Practical examination will be carried out at any Practical centre decided by the
University after considering appeared students’ strength and available
facilities to conduct examination. The maximum number of students per centre
shall not exceed six students per day.
2) The viva-voce part of the practical examination shall involve extensive
discussion on any aspect of the speciality.
3) Student must present his/her Dissertation during practical examination.
4) The heads for Practical Examination and maximum allotted marks shall be as
prescribed by the University for the concern subject from time to time.
5) The student shall have to undergo training in the department concerned and
shall maintain month-wise record of the work done during the last two years
of study in the specialty opted by him as under:-
(a) study of literature related to specialty;
(b) regular clinical training in the hospital for student of clinical subject;
(c) practical training of research work carried out in the department, for
student of pre-clinical
(d) and para clinical subject;
(e) participation in various seminars, symposia and discussions; and
(f) progress report of the work done on the topic of dissertation. Submitted

6) There shall be four theory papers in each specialty and one practical or clinical
and viva-voce examination in the concerned specialty or group of sub-
specialties selected by the student for special study.
7) The student shall publish or get accepted minimum one research paper on his
research work in one journal and one paper presentation in regional level
seminar.
8) The final examination shall be conducted by a team of four examiners, out of
which two external examiners shall be appointed from any other institution
(Out conventional University zone/ Deemed University).
9) A) For Preliminary examination a teacher with five year P.G. teaching
experience in concern subject shall be considered eligible for being appointed
as an examiner.
B) For final P.G. examination a teacher with five years P.G. teaching
experience in concern subject from the institution where the P.G. is running in
concern subject. Teacher must be a approved Guide shall be considered
eligible for being appointed as an examiner.
10) Format of Practical marks list for MD/MS Preliminary and Final Examination
of every speciality shall be applicable as notified by the University.

(F) GENERAL RULES FOR ALL POSTGRADUATE STUDENTS:

(1) After admission to P.G. Course by any method by any time, decision regarding grant of the
academic term, shall be as prescribed by the University authority and this decision shall be
binding on all students.
(2) The stipend and contingency shall be provided at the rates prevailing in the State for other
medical post-graduate students.
(3) The students admitted in Government Ayurved Colleges have to complete residency scheme
as per government directives both in preliminary and main course examination.
(4) If a student completes 36 month period/ three academic years before appearing to final
examination from the date of admission, the candidate has to work regularly in concerned
0department/ hospital till declaration of result of final year.
(5) All candidates admitted against seats reserved for Teachers or in service candidate shall be
treated at par with other students for their work in the hospitals and shall undergo appropriate
allied experience.
(6) A candidate admitted to any Post Graduate Ayurved course will not be allowed to work in
any other institute or will not be allowed to work as a Medical Practitioner in his/her
own/private/aided/non-aided or any other type of dispensary or hospital or any other Institute,
other than admitted college.
(7) The registration once granted is only valid if the respective Post Graduate Guide/Head of the
Department and the Dean/Principal of the college are satisfied about regularity clinical work,
diligent persuasion of studies by the students as well as their good conduct.
(8) An absence of two months or above from the institution without assigning any genuine and
satisfactory reason would automatically amount to cancellation of the registration of the
candidate.
(9) The student while studying in the Post Graduate Ayurveda courses, if found indulging in
ragging, anti-national activities, unlawful activities or contrary to the provisions of Acts and
laws enforced by the Government, provisions of Direction/Statutes/Ordinance of the
University, will be liable to be expelled from the college by the Dean/Principal of the college.
At the time of admission, each Post Graduate student has to submit Notarized Affidavit cum
Undertaking in a format as prescribed by DMER, Mumbai.
(10) Every Post Graduate student shall be under administrative and disciplinary control of the
hospital where he is appointed. He shall obey the rules, regulations, conversions and practice
of hospital in force and code of conduct as laid down by the Govt/ University/C.C.I.M. from
time to time.
In case of breach of code of conduct/rules by a student, concerned authority of
hospital shall take any disciplinary action including disqualification to continue further Post
Graduate studies or any other lesser punishment which may it thinks fit.
The concerned Dean/Principal shall take such final decision and communicate the
same to the University within seven days.
(11) If any dispute arises between student and his Guide on any issue or disciplinary action then
the matter will be referred to Dean/Principal of the concerned college.
If any dispute arises between student and Dean/Principal of the concerned college, then the
matter will be referred to the Vice-Chancellor and after suitable enquiry the decision will be
given and this decision will be binding on all the concerned persons.
(12) A candidate admitted to any Post Graduate Ayurved course will not be allowed to avail
vacation prescribed by the University for the UG courses students.
(13) The students shall have to attend special lectures, demonstrations, seminars, study tours and
such other activities as may be arranged by the teaching departments of college.
(14) The students shall have to undergo training in the department concerned and shall maintain
record of the work done during the last two years of study (Main Course) in the specialty
opted by him/her and have to maintain a Log Book prescribed by the University and has to
submit dully certified from Guide, H.O.D. & Dean/Principal for final year Practical
examination.
(15) Earlier Circular No. 51/2018 dated 11/07/2018 on the subject hereby stands cancelled.

Annexure ‘A’

(A) DISSERTATION :

(1) The subject of every dissertation shall be research oriented, practical oriented, innovative and
helpful in the development of Ayurveda system and the subject of the dissertation shall have
relation with the subject matter of the specialty.
(2) Once the title for dissertation is approved by the University, the student shall not be allowed
to change the title of the proposed theme of work without prior permission of the University.
(3) No student shall be allowed to submit the dissertation before six months of completion of
course and the student shall continue his/her regular study in the institution after submission
of dissertation to complete three years.
(4) The dissertation shall contain the methods and data of the research carried out by the student
on the problem selected by him/her and completed under the guidance of the guide or
supervisor approved by the University.
(5) The dissertation shall consist of critical review of literature, methodology, results of the
research, discussion on the basis of research findings of the study, summary, conclusion, and
references cited in the dissertation shall be suitable for publication.
(6) The dissertation shall consist of not less than forty thousand words.
(7) The dissertation shall contain, at the end, a summary of not more than one thousand and five
hundred words and the conclusion not exceeding one thousand words.
(8) Two copies of the bound dissertation along with a certificate from the supervisor or guide
shall be submitted to the concerned college for their records before the final examination.
(9) The student shall be permitted to appear in the final examination of post-graduate degree
course only after approval of the dissertation by all examiners.
(10) Inter-disciplinary research may be done by co-opting the guide or supervisor from the
concerned specialty.
(11) If a para-clinical or pre-clinical subject student takes a thesis topic involving clinical trials
then he/she shall take under co-guide of a clinical teacher of the speciality concerned for
preparing the thesis.
(12) The Dissertation shall be a literary presentation and suitable for publication either as such or
in an abridged form.
(13) The written text of Dissertation shall be not less than 50 pages excluding references tables,
Questionnaires and other Annexures. The Dissertation shall consists of not more than two
hundred typed pages. It should be neatly typed in 1.5 line spacing on one side of paper (A4
size, 8.27” X 11.69”) for English – Font Verdana with Size:12, & Sanskrit -For
quotation/references- BARAHA with size : 11, as prescribed by the University from time to
time, and bound properly. Spiral binding should not be done. The Dissertation shall be
certified by the Guide, Head of the Department and Head of the Institution (Certificate page
supposed to be detachable and placed after first page).
(14) The guide or supervisor shall be a person of status of a Professor or Reader or Associate
Professor.
(15) Lecturer or Assistant Professor having five years University approved teaching experience in
the subject concerned shall eligible for guide or supervisor.
(16) The first page of Dissertation will be as under. (This page supposed to be detachable)

(19) The Dissertation shall contain, a summary of not more than one thousand five hundred words
and the conclusion not exceeding one thousand words.
(20) In clinical photographs if included in Dissertation, the identity of subjects should be
concealed. The names of the patients should not be disclosed in the master chart.
(21) It must be ensured that identity of any Individual student should not be disclosed in the
dissertation by any means by the student/the college/Guide.
(22) Candidate submitting Dissertation after the last prescribed date shall not be eligible to appear
in ensuing University examination even if he/she is issued Hall Ticket/Admit Card.

(B) ASSESSMENT OF DISSERTATION:

(1) Each Dissertation shall be assessed by two external and two internal examiner (other than
Guide) appointed by the University.
(2) Each examiner has to furnish all details in assessment report attached with Dissertation,
prescribed by the University for the purpose
(3) The Dissertation shall be accepted only after the approval of all examiners appointed under
sub-regulation (a) and in case of dis-approval of Dissertation by only one examiner, then the
Dissertation shall be referred to the neutral external examiner.(neutral examiner means a
eligible examiner from panel not appointed for that particular exam )
(4) Approval of Dissertation work is an essential pre-condition to appear in the Final University
Examinations (Theory and Practical). It will be lawful if due to technical and un-evitable
reason, the University is unable to declare the result of student’s dissertation before
commencement of Theory/practical examination, then the student may be permitted to appear
for Final University examination with the special permission of the Vice Chancellor,
however, the result of the said examination will be declared subject to approval of
dissertation.
