Montgomery College, SPAN 201

Proyecto Cultural

Description
This Project consists of an original investigation about a native Spanish-speaking country or other theme
presented in the Intermediate Spanish course. The project includes a written component and an oral presentation.
Possible themes include but are not limited to the topics in the Almanaques and Sucesos sections of Acceso in Units
1-4. Utilize information from other classes relevant to the topic selected.

Essay Format
The essay is where you will demonstrate all the information you have learned and include your personal
impressions and reflection. The essay should reveal what you have learned through your research. In order to
receive feedback and improve your papers, everyone will participate in a peer review in class. The professor will
assign a partner to each student and you will need to submit a first draft of your paper to your partner for review
and then to the professor for additional feedback. When it is time to submit the final version of your paper, please
submit your essay on Blackboard by the designated due date. The requirements for the essay are:
 Length: 2-3 pages with 1 inch margins on all sides.
 Font: Times New Roman, 12 point, double-spaced
 Bibliography as final page(s): all bibliographic sources are to be listed in MLA format. Please refer to the
following link: http://libguides.montgomerycollege.edu/citation_tools.

Oral Presentation
The oral presentation will be 7-8 minutes in length and completed in groups during class time on the date(s)
designated in our class schedule in the syllabus. The presentation must be clearly stated in Spanish, be presented
in an interesting manner and include visual elements. The presentation must include a visual medium such as
PowerPoint or Prezi in order to present your topics to the class. Please submit your group’s presentation on
Blackboard within the assignment space provided. The group will need to invent three questions about the main
points they would like the class to take away from their presentation. Be creative on how to pose these questions
to the class: Jeopardy; Who wants to be a millionaire?; Match Game; Are you smarter than a 5th grader?

The structure of the oral presentation should include the following:

 Name of the presentation and chosen theme.
 Objectives and qualities that make it appealing to your audience.
 Presentation and explanation (but not a lecture) of the sub-themes.
 Three to four questions (one per presenter) for the class, which may be done in the form of a game.
 Appropriate citing of pictures or any videos used and a bibliography page as the final slide(s) to show all
resources. Again, please use MLA format.

Please refer to the grading rubrics posted in Blackboard to know how each element of the assignment will be
assessed.
