Why do you want to work for tesla?

I work with the fuel systems at caterpillar and the main objective is to
design an injector that would burn diesel as efficient as possible so as
to reduce the emissions. But no matter how you efficient you make it,
a truck would still emit 25 pounds of carbon dioxide for every gallon of
diesel burned and this number really bothered me.
So, I sat down and had a discussion with my manager to see if
caterpillar had any plans to make battery powered semis in the future
so we can reduce the overall carbon footprint. But I did not get the
response I was looking for.
Although I have enjoyed and I am very much thankful for everything
my employer has done for me over the last three years, I think it’s time
for me to move to a new challenge.
A challenging job that would make me want to get out of my bed every
morning.
I think I am ready to put it in long hours for a job I know that would
make a lot of difference in this world by reducing the our dependence
on fossil fuels.
So that exactly is the reason why we are having this conversation right
now.
I am totally amped to be a part of the tesla team and be a game
changer.

In 2017, a year into my current role as a simulations engineer, there

was a production issue with one of the clamp bolts on a new fuel
injector assembly that we developed. The design was based off of an
existing old fuel system which had no issues at all. So After the new
fuel system was sent out to the field, the clamp bolt which holds the
injector parts together would snap after a few hundred working cycles.
The general manager was not a happy man and there was meeting
right away with the design engineers and my analysis team.
We were asked to an analysis to find the reason behind the bolt
failure.

So, our team organized a late-night brainstorm session that evening.

And I asked to take the lead on running the analysis. This was
challenging because normally the analysis would take a week or at
least few days to complete, but the GM wanted to know the reason
behind the failure the very next day cause the production had stopped
for this reason.

I overcame this challenge by delegating some of the preprocessing

analysis works to CAT India while I was trying to setup the computer
simulation. I Made skype calls to them to explain what the problem
was and told them what had to be done. With a combined team
strength of 3 people we were able to setup the analysis that very night
and got the results the next morning.
We figured out the reason for the snapping of the bolt was because of
high torqueing during the assembly. so we gave the design engineer
the exact number where it wouldn’t fail nor there would be any fuel
leakage in the system. As predicted from the analysis, we did not see
any further failures in the field and I was given high praise for turning
in the results in a short period of time.
