Types Of Tenses

Present Tense
1. Simple Present Tense

A sentence is presented in simple present tense when it is used to


describe an action that's happening at present and does not indicate
when the action is expected to end.
Subject + 1st form of Verb (+s/es) + Object (may or may not present)

Subject + Do/Does + not+ 1st form of Verb + Object (may or may not
present)

Do/Does + Subject + 1st form of Verb + Object (may or may not


present)?

2. Present Progressive Or Present Continuous

Present continuous usually defines an act that is going on at the


time of speaking.
Subject + be (is, am, are) + 1st form of Verb+(-ing) + Object
Subject + (is, am, are) + not + 1st form of Verb+(-ing) + Object
(is, am, are) + Subject + 1st form of Verb+(-ing) + Object
3. Present Perfect Tense
Present Perfect Tense explains the incident that has happened in
the past and that continues until the present time.
Subject + has/have + 2nd form of verb + Object
Subject + has/have + not + 2nd form of verb + Object
Has/have + Subject + 2nd form of verb + Object
4. Present Perfect Continuous Tense
Present Perfect Continuous Tense is used for a situation that has
occurred in the past and which continues until that moment.
Subject + has/have + been +1st form of verb+(-ing) + Object
Subject + has/have + not + been +1st form of verb+(-ing) + Object
Has/have + Subject + been +1st form of verb+(-ing) + Object?

Past Tense
1) Simple Past Tense
Simple past tense is used to narrate an action of the past.
Subject + 2nd form of verb + Object
Subject + did + not+ 1st form of verb + Object
Did + Subject + 1st form of verb + Object?
2) Past Continuous Tense
This form of tense indicates activities that have already happened
in the past and have been completed before the time of mention.
Subject + was/were + 1st form of Verb +(-ing) + Object
Subject + was/were + not + 1st form of Verb +(-ing) + Object
Was/were + Subject + 1st form of Verb +(-ing) + Object?
3) Past Perfect Tense
This tense refers to a non-continuous action that was already
completed in the past.
Subject + had + 3rd form of verb + Object
Subject + had + not + 3rd form of verb + Object
Had + subject + 3rd form of verb + Object?
4) Past Perfect Continuous Tense
A continuous action that was completed sometime in the past falls
under Past Perfect Continuous tense.
Subject + had + been +1st form of Verb +(ing) + object
Subject + had + not + been +1st form of Verb +(ing) + object
Had + Subject + been +1st form of Verb +(ing) + object?
Future Tense
i. Simple Future Tense
This tense is used for those sentences which refer to the actions
which will occur later, in future.
Subject + will + 1st form of verb + Object
Subject + will + not + 1st form of verb + Object
Will + Subject + 1st form of verb + Object?
ii. Future Continuous Tense
This tense defines those acts which will be continued at a future
point of time.
Subject + will + be+ 1st form of verb (+ing) + Object
Subject + will + not + be+ 1st form of verb (+ing) + Object
Will + Subject + be+ 1st form of verb (+ing) + Object?
iii. Future Perfect Tense
This tense is used to express an act that is predicted to be finished
within a certain span of time in the future.
Subject + will+ have + 3rd form of verb + Object
Subject + will+ not + have + 3rd form of verb + Object
Will + Subject + have been + 3rd form of verb + Object?
iv. Future Perfect Continuous Tense
This tense form indicates an action that is continuous and, at some
point in the future, it will be completed.
Subject + will+ have + been+ 1st form of verb (+ing)+ Object
Subject + will+ not + have + been+ 1st form of verb (+ing)+ Object
Will + Subject + have + been+ 1st form of verb (+ing)+ Object?
