Integration Processes In The Global Economy:

Current State And Prospects. The Cases Of The European Union,
ASEAN Economic Community, And NAFTA
The Causal Mechanisms of Interaction
between International Institutions
Title of the Article

1. Difficult Concepts (What concepts did you find difficult to understand?)

i. Economic and monetary union
ii. Two–speed integration process
iii. The Casual mechanism models

2. Insights (What new insights or learning did you gain in discussion/ activity?)

i. Before reading the article/understanding the lesson, I thought that

States and countries problems are affecting only their own financial status.
All the global trading only adds up to their economy and I only knew the
positive affect of this.

However, reading the article/understanding the lesson, I now think/realize

That other internal relations can significantly disturb global finance and
the global economy. Based on what I understand on the topic of unions,
a well-functioning internal market are important to a union and this can
greatly affect their global economy.

ii. Before reading the article/understanding the lesson, I thought that

ASEAN only formed for socio political reasons to discuss the issues and try
to come up solutions to it. And formed to deepen relations across
countries and prevent disparities and feud between each other.

However, reading the article/understanding the lesson, I now think/realize

That ASEAN is formed to integrate each economy to a union. Helping
each other through free trade market, improving their global economy
and solving financial crisis. It involved many agreements over time and
growing to improve themselves. But like other integration groups, ASEAN
also encountered problems like discrepancies on political wills.

iii. Before reading the article/understanding the lesson, I thought that

That many countries solve their own problem using their own law. Creating
news ones inside to protect or promote something and effectively
preserve rare organism or our environment.

However, reading the article/understanding the lesson, I now think/realize

Many of these efforts are results of institutional interactions, agreements
and protocols made by them. Most of them coexist and benefit each
other by giving and taking but if there are contradictions, this may cause
disruptions.
iv. Before reading the article/understanding the lesson, I thought that
When an institution forms, it forms because of a single major topic and
nothing else. My idea of the process of interaction between institution is
simple and narrow minded.

However, reading the article/understanding the lesson, I now think/realize

That many things affect the process of institutional interaction of a source
and target institution. Both macro and micro level actors matter on the
interactions. And according to the second article, cognitive interaction
can affect, influence or start decision makings of institutions. It can be
either unintentionally or intentionally and both still can greatly influence
outcomes.

v. Before reading the article/understanding the lesson, I thought that

I don’t have any prior knowledge on the interaction and the processes of
it. I haven’t thought about the causes of interactions and how it happens.

However, reading the article/understanding the lesson, I now think/realize

That there is more to the interactions of institution. There are many types of
causes to these interactions and from what I read from the article it
includes cognitive interaction, interaction through commitment,
behavioral interaction and impact level interaction.

3. Questions (What questions would you want answers for? Or vague areas you
want more explanations about?
i. If unions made trading open to the joined states and countries, would it
be possible in the future that all the markets be unified and how can this
be made possible?
ii. Discrepancies can occur in international institution interactions through
contradiction of political wills. Does this mean culture of other countries
can also affect interactions greatly?
iii. Many countries are joined to unions and having well-functioning internal
market. But if these things fail, will these unions be abolish or will it still a
union with a failed market?
