metro substation is being fed normally by 33KV feeder from sources
of CESC.

Transformer
A transformer is a device that transfers electrical energy from one
circuit to another through inductively coupled conductors – the
transformer coils. A varying current in the first or primary winding
creats a varying magnetic flux in the transformer core and thus a
varying magnetic field through the secondary winding. This varying
magnetic field induces a varying EMF in the secondary winding.This
effect is called Inductive Coupling.

Relay used in Protection system

The relay is the element that senses an abnormal condition in the
circuit and commands the operation of the breaker.They can be
classified in a number of ways :
 1. According to the quantity sensed : current, voltage, active
power, reactive power, impedance relays.
2. According to the tripping : instantaneous trip, delayed trip,
inverstime current response
3. According to the operating principal : electromagnetic relays,
induction relays, thermal relays, static or digital relays.

Rectifier
The transformer-rectifier present in substation transforms ac voltage
supplied from power grid into appropriate dc voltage.
Circuit Breaker
• An electrical circuit breaker is a switching device that can be
operated manually or automatically for controlling the
electrical power system.
• It is designed to protect an electrical circuit from damage
caused by excess current from an overload or short circuit. It’s
basic function is to interrupt current flow after a fault is
detected.

Busbar
• A Busbar is a metallic strip or bar (typically copper, brass or
aluminium)that conducts electricity within a switchboard,
distribution board, substation, battery bank, or other electrical
apparatus.
• It’s main purpose is to conduct a substantial current or
electricity and not to function as a structural member.
• The current carrying capacity of a busbar is limited by the
maximum acceptable working temperature of the system.
• The bar is heated by the power dissipated in it by the load
current flowing through the resistance and cooled by radiation
to it’s surroundings and convection from its surfaces.
